Gibson guitars are noted for being hugely inconsistent, so there is no way to tell whether one is better than the other just from that description. You will have to play them, and hear if one stands out to you.

Pickups, neck profile and weight relief look like the 3 biggest differences. 2016 = modern weight relief, 59 rounded profile, Burstbucker pros. 2017 = ultra-modern weight relief, slim taper neck. 490 pickups. $100 more. As mentioned, you need to play them if possible. If not, pick the one you think you prefer and buy from a place that has a no hassle return policy. It can be a crap shoot.

Used to be Studios had the circuit board and regular Les Paul's were hand wired. Not sure if still true.

I love the way it plays. I'm gonna upgrade the double slug pickups though
I prefer the thinner necks and lighter body's
