A strat. But in a smoke filled club that might be mistaken for a Les Paul, so legal action may ensue. Maybe a piano..?

;)

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

They're equal in quality, so there's no winner.

They use the same types of wood.
Basic body shape.
Almost identical wiring.
Both come with quality pickups.......arguable, I know.
Same tuning pegs
PRS puts more time in the natural taped off faux binding, and Gibson puts more time in the plastic binding.
Gibson Tuneomatic is more accurate for intonation, yet the PRS stoptail transfers energy more efficiently.
The neck dimensions are almost the same, but have their own variances.
Both play and sound better than the vast majority of solid body humbucking guitars.

Equal, with negatives and positives on both sides of the fence. Apples'n'Oranges.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

Gotta agree with Gearjoneser here (of course, I can't remember many times when I haven't ;) ). They are both fantastic guitars, the only reason why I chose PRS is because I feel that overall PRS has better quality control.

If you get a Gibson that was made well (not always easy), it's very very difficult to ever top it. PRS makes consistently well made tone machines. The best of Gibsons Les Pauls will probably beat out the best of the Singlecuts to me, but the realization is that PRS will be right up there with Gibsons better ones or surpassing Gibsons not so well made ones almost every single time. They do not sound exactly the same (that's a strong fact right there), but they both sound amazing in their own right.

Hang on a minute, the wraparound transfers string energy more efficiently? I'd have thought it was the other way around. What if we're comparing the PRS wraparound to a Tonepros TOM?

Only because it's a 1 piece block of metal straight to wood, rather than going over a saddle. My PRS's seem a tad more resonant because of it.

By the way, this is supposed to be in the Guitar section!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

Yeah the wraparound does I think transmit better......hence why guys do a top wrap on Paulas and such ..I just don't like that feel...I'd KILL to have a Firebird I, but the wraparound just feels weird to me....not as weird as a Floyd or Fender bridge...but ..not quite right..

I'll take a great Gibson over anything...But I'd take a great Reed over just about anything else (assuming I can swap the pups :D )

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

Jimmie Page didn't play no darn PRS :burnout:
:wall:

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

I'll go with PRS...cause we're not really specifying what gibson model.

There are a lot of "crappy" gibson LP's out there...

But I havent run into too many (if any) crappy singlecuts.

So PRS gets it for consistancy in that respect.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

PRS, if for no other reason than the finish. It's hard to top a PRS finish, AND they do it consistently.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

I have a question:
is the single cut body as thin as the other PRSs?

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

PRS for me. The natural binding on PRS SCs is the icing on the cake, but overall the consistency of the Single Cut would be why they'd get my stack of green. Which is a shame on Gibson, because all companies should operate like that. I wouldn't say the "best" Gibbies would beat PRS though, that's a very relative thing to say

No, but the SC Trem has a thinner body than the SC.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

i'll be dropping in on my local PRS dealer to check em' out...i've never even seen one in person (prs sc that is)...so until then...i can't compare.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Vs PRS Singlecut

I'd take an LP over a Single cut. That said I would take my PRS doublecuts over both of them
