Gibson LP Melody Maker: Yes or No?

Cheers guys,

A friend of mine found this little black-tobacco-sunburst axe and he intends to buy one. I have zero experience with the Melody Maker and P90 axes in general so if you can tell me a thing or two about why he should and why he shouldn't get it, it's warmly welcomed ;)

He had an Epi LP before and an Ibanez RG that in a time turned out to be less suitable for his music. His tone is a classic rock sound with an ounce of modern colur, think of AC/DC meets Judas Priest meets Green Day's American Idiot midful chord-splashing dirt tone. Versatility is the last issue: he just cranks the amp until dirty enough and rocks.

Thanks for any input :headbang:

a few friends of mine pick up melody makers when gc was blowing them out at like $200 or something like that, other than the fact that they are yellow, the are pretty nice guitars. especially for slide

The MM's are very cool. I haven't seen any of the new ones in a burst so maybe it is an older one which is even cooler! I just sold mine to Nikromancer to help fund my Malcolm Young Gretsch but there was nothing wrong with it at all it was just odd man out.

almost bought one, unfortunately when I was at GC they were $400. if it was 200 i would have bought it definitely. i love p90s, and I liked the rough, natural feel fo the neck and body. I haven't seen any sunburst ones though.

Thanks for the answers, guys. As it seems, there's nothing wrong with this axe. I'll tell the guy to get it.

Well make sure it has a straight neck. I have played a few that were not. Given a good neck they can be righteous.

The late '50's originals are cool. I've played a bunch over the years. Not sure what they're going for at this point. If I were to buy a more recent version, I'ld go with a Hamer Special with stock Duncan P-90's.

I want to hate this guitar. The fretwork is awful. I have to bandage my fingers after I play it, The finish is horid, Cheap indoor paint? But the action is to die for. The tone is vintage, I seem to always play this piece!

Re: Gibson LP Melody Maker: Yes or No?

ive never tried them, but today i tried a les paul faded double cut awaywith dual p90's and that thing is just amazing i really want one now!
