Gibson Melody Maker Pickups

Hey guys I'm new to the forum....and changing pickups. I have a question. I have a 2007 Gibson Melody Maker. They come standard with a Gibson single coil pickup. I want to swap it out with something with a little more grit. I really like the Duncan Distortion humbucker. So my question to you guys is: Can I put a humbucker in this guitar if it originally came with a single coil? And if anybody has any other pickup recommendations for this guitar please let me know. Thanks a lot you guys.

Re: Gibson Melody Maker Pickups

you can either get a single coil sized humbucker or route the guitar to fit a regular sized humbucker...

I think I read somewhere that gibson melody maker single coils are smaller than fender ones and you'd have to rout the guitar in either case. Can anyone confirm this?

Hey BigWilson87, welcome to the forum.

If you're willing to spring for a Custom Shop pickup, Seymour and MJ will make you a Melody Maker and voice it to your taste.

Re: Gibson Melody Maker Pickups

I Used a Seymour Duncan SH-1B Humbucker in the bridge position on my 65 Melody Maker. The pickup has an incredible bottom end and crisp on the high end. Closest thing I've ever heard to an original Gibson PAF. Turned my Melody Maker into a real screamer.
