Re: Gibson Midtown Custom
Hey guys!
I've just started college...it's completely swamped my entire life, I haven't had a free minute to play/practice or write since September, much less go on forums. However things are just starting to normalize, so I decided to pop back in.
I traded gear to get the Midtown, I went in for a Tele (came REAL close to kopping one of those weird, rad TV Jones loaded Telecasters), but I saw a shiny, natural Midtown Custom and it was all over (*waits for Blueman approval*). I've never owned a semi-hollow before, so I don't have a great reference to compare it to, however to me it definitely has more of the depth and airyness of a good 335, than the punch and girth of a Les Paul. I'm not sure exactly how hollow it is, but from the tone and weight I would say they chambered quite a bit of the body. The BB 1/2 combo is average, but a hell of a lot better than the '57 classics that come in the Standard.
And yes I will admit that when I found out the fretboard was made of some odd, synthetic glue/wood/plastic combination I was pretty pissed off (of course there had to be something totally stupid that Gibson adds for no reason), but if I hadn't read that online I honestly never would have known. The board looks just like a killer piece of ebony, and sounds great, so I'm not complaining.
Pics on the way!
