Gibson Nighthawk magnets

I found out some info on the Nighthawk bridge pickup. The description from Gibson says it has "three different magnetic materials and produces a higher output than standard-design pickups. What three materials would these most likely be? A2, A5, ceramic...anything else they would use? Don't know if there are anymore "A"s.

Re: Gibson Nighthawk magnets

Alnico also comes in A3 and A4 versions which have been used in guitar pickups . I was going to suggest a bar magnet "transplant" for this pickup, but if there are 3 separate magnets I retract my suggestion...

I've had good results swapping out the bar magnets in some of my humbuckers and P-90's (you haven't lived until you tried a SD 59 with an Alnico 3 magnet! :saeek: )

You can order the magnets from Steven Kersting:

Wolfetone pickups used to make a Strat pickup called the *Alpha Male* that used an alnico 8 magnet.

If you go to his website (the second one) you'll see he doesn't make that one anymore. Apparently its too expensive to order the alnico 8 magnets.
