Re: Gibson Owner - I may make a Strat
the silver flake looks cool.
However...dig around for an american standard body from fender...heres why.....
1. If you want mahogany for a darker tone because you love gibsons etc.....consider that the fender american standard bodies are made from alder which is still very fat sounding and not too heavy. It will also be guaranteed to bolt right on to your neck with no problems AND it has a micro tilt adjustment.
2. the older ones are bathtub routed and the modern ones ar HSH so you can put in a pair of pafs or whatever...and you can keep changing pickup configs till you are happy.
3. The american standard is routed for a standard bridge...now i know you dont like fender style bridges for sound reasons...however the american standard (2 pin) bridge has big heavy chunks of metal for the saddles and a big chunk of heavy metal underneath. They sound fat and totally adress the concerns you have expressed about traditional fender style bridges. If you use 5 springs and never use the trem i honestly believe this setup sounds chunkier than a hardtail. More sustain...everything.
4. If you have an american standard neck and an american standard body and an american standard bridge...you will not just have a great sounding axe which is a great platform for modding...it will actually be an american standard fender which is a great thing if you ever decide to sell it.
All this advice is based on having owned and gigged 4 fender strats over the years which have all undergone various modifications. Also..i am a full time musician who primarily plays gibsons so i totally understand what it is that you may not like about fender strats. If you can find an american standard or even a deluxe body in your favourite finish then i guarantee its an excellent option.
