Gibson P100 pickups..Some with mounting brackets, some without?

Hi guys..I have some questions about gibsons p100. I am not overly familiar with these..Does anybody know why some of these have no metal mounting brackets and some of them do? And for p100s without these brackets how do these mount up in a guitar? Every time I see the p100 with brackets they tend to have dogear covers. Are dogear covers specific to the p100 with brackets? Any info is appreciated!

The two styles of mounting for a Gibson P-100 are derived directly from the original P-90 single coil. Namely; "dogear" and "soapbar".

The dogear variant has a metal baseplate with extensions at either end to accept mounting screws.

The soapbar variant may or may not come with a metal baseplate. The pickup is mounted via the bobbin, using two screws that thread into brass inserts at the bottom of the pickup cavities.

It sounds like you are talking about the baseplates, not mounting brackets. If so, dogears and soap bars have different baseplates, even on P90's. Each type will mount just like a P90 of the same type, though they require deeper cavities than P90's.

WHile this is all true - we perhaps need to take a step back. P-100 mounting questions are kind of like asking about the tread on the boat's tires. FAIL...

P-100's, IMO, are some of the skankiest things on the planet. If skank is the tone - excuse me - hum free skunk, great. But there are so many great P-90 tones and the P-100 just isn't one of them.

But hey - if you dig therm, more power to you. I'll sell you a set. They have brackets/baseplates.
