Gibson P90 mag swap....which type for my needs?

Re: Gibson P90 mag swap....which type for my needs?

I've been playing guitar since 1971. I've built tons of guitars, I've been refretting my own guitars for 30 years, i'm a electronic tech by trade 40 hours a week for the last 20 years and have built quite a few of my own amps from scratch. Telling me my pickups are P100's would be like telling a BMW mechanic what a oil filter is. Good god man, i even removed the neck pickup and unwound it by 1k to clean it up....yeah, i think they're 90's !

I'm done....can't get a simple answer here no matter how many times i ask. Q: "What magnet might help get me this? A: "you can't dude, it's in the hands". Can no one read between the lines anymore or do you have to write an entire bio on yourself and what you're trying to accomplish to try and avoid all the never ending questions you already know the answer to? Geez....internet forums:yell:

Why are you even asking if you seem to have the skill, experience, and answer?

That, and we can't read your mind. None of us knew of your knowledge until you said something. The vast majority of problems brought up here only need simple solutions that most people don't even bother to try before complaining on forums. Those are the solutions we will suggest first, unless we already know how much the OP knows and what they've done.

Alnico 2 or even better, 3, will kill the ice-pick quite well. Alni-3 has no cobalt. A2 has some. I've got Ron Ellis P90s in my SG Special '61RI and my treble-bleed is a very light circuit, not the factory components, which are below par.

Re: Gibson P90 mag swap....which type for my needs?

This post is a little old and the OP is probably gone by now. But, just in case he isn't, as Three Dog Night said..."try a little tenderness". When you're asking for help, don't insult and argue with those trying to help you. Be patient and help them help you. Being a jerk doesn't help anyone.

Now here's my biggest problem with this thread and the OP...

After he got frustrated with the helpful advice given to him, he finally tells us that he is very experienced and knowledgeable..."I've been playing guitar since 1971. I've built tons of guitars, I've been refretting my own guitars for 30 years, i'm a electronic tech by trade 40 hours a week for the last 20 years and have built quite a few of my own amps from scratch".

Someone with half of that knowledge and experience would have easily known the solution to his problem. So...he is either a troll, is lying to us about his experience, or is a very poor tech who probably ought to get out of the electronics repair trade and stop bragging about his abilities(?).

Re: Gibson P90 mag swap....which type for my needs?

But, I do hope he figures out the solution to his dilemma.

(Because with an attitude like that, he sure isn't going to get anyone else helping him!)
