Gibson pickup ID

Howdy. I’m clueless about Gibson pickups and I’m being offered these in a trade. Apart from looking legit, any way to ID them without a DCR reading? They have 4 wires.

Re: Gibson pickup ID

Left Off hand, they are legit Gibsons with the stamped baseplates. I see its one bridge pickup and one neck pickup, beceause of the different string spacing of the screw coils. For more you need readings.

Re: Gibson pickup ID

Right off hand, I'd say those aren't Gibson units...
They have the Gibson logo etched into the baseplate, so...

Unfortunately, though, they all use basically the same parts outside of how they're wound, so a resistance reading and a look at the magnets will tell you what you've got.

Re: Gibson pickup ID

Without the dcr reading it is hard to name those pickups. They seem legit to me and they should be two of the following: 490r, 490t, 496r, 498t, 500t. All those pickups have the brained wire if factory installed. Otherwise they came always with 4 wires

Re: Gibson pickup ID

Thanks everybody!

Like I said I’m clueless about Gibsons so all of this was helpful.

I’ll most likely proceed with the trade and get back here with some DCR readings to narrow it further.

Re: Gibson pickup ID

Post 1998 Gibsons have a wider strings space, this means that a F spaced pickup is suggested.

The only pickup among those listed to take into consideration is the 500T

Re: Gibson pickup ID

If you peel back the tape on the bridge pickup you'd be able to tell right away if it's a 500T, they have double thick magnets, and a three magnet setup instead of spacers on the outside

Gibson pickup ID

Made the trade!

They both measure around 8k and this is what the magnet situation looks like underneath one:

So 490R and 490T?
