Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

So I just pulled these from a Frankenstrat I got on the cheap. Pretty sure they are Gibson. They both measure 7.58 I’m not sure how to tell a bridge from a neck or what model buckers these are. Any help is appreciated.

Im not sure honestly, just going by looks though, it appears the zebra pickup has a thicker magnet so it was most likely the bridge. Leastwise thats what it looks like to me.

Re: Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

I don’t ever remember seeing a Gibson humbucker on a brass baseplate.

I’m interested.

Re: Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

You haven't provide a full picture of the coils. The baseplates are Gibson, but maybe the coils aren't.

I've never seen, nor knew about Gibson p'ups with double-thick ceramic magnet and a brass baseplate with a stamped Pat#.

Re: Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

I'm going with an old Gibson Dirty Fingers humbucker... possibly made in December of 1981.

EDIT - no. Just saw the Ohms reading.

I've seen a few "frankensteinized" PU's made with various Gibson parts but the right answer might be in the post below...

Hmmm sounds like maybe from that late 70s experiment timeline. The seller did say they came from a 77 SG. I had the impression his claims didn’t hold water because of the hack job he did on the guitar. Maybe he was actually right.

Re: Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

I am finding examples of Gibson SG “Firebrand” right around 1980 with same pickup config...

Makes sense then.

Well, they aren’t T-tops. With the same orientation and the lead is coming from the same spot wouldn’t that make these both the same? I mean both bridge or both neck?

I've not said they are T-tops... Look the slide-show here (4th pic): https://reverb.com/item/3555398-gibson-sg-standard-firebrand-1980-walnut

Regarding neck and bridge PU's, see what Cooljuk said on MLP : during the "experimental era", Gibson used the same parts for both positions but did put thicker and stronger mags in bridge transducers. :-)

The non zebra pickup looks like a Shaw humbucker. Those are the baseplates from that era. The zebra reminds me of the bridge pickup from a Victory guitar.

Re: Gibson Pickups Need ID Please

I'm guessing the Velvet Brick for the bridge....

Neck is a Shaw.

But they are obviously both early 80's pickups......the ceramic mag having a build date of 12th month '81.

I am not sure, but I love threads like this. I am not great about IDing Gibson pickups, so I always learn a lot.

Great, I was searching in vain this name of bridge pickup in my old brain... I have an old Gbson flyer somewhere in my crowded archives with this stuff but couldn't find it. :-/

BTW, I've not handled a Shaw for a while but my far memories suggested the presence of a "square in a circle hole" in each bobbin and I fail to see it in the pics above... I just see round holes... That's why I've not said "Shaw" at first glance with the neck PU. But as a matter of fact, there's other online pics of Shaw's with this appearance. Makes me wonder if there was several bobbin molds for Shaw's or if it's just a question of pics (or wrong memories)...

Anyway, thx Alex!

It’s not a Velvet Brick. So far from my research I’m pretty convinced they are bridge (zebra) and neck from a SG Firebrand. Both of them same resistance but larger magnet in the zebra for more output.

As a matter of fact, the bridge unit doesn't look like this one: https://reverb.com/item/2769215-gibson-velvet-brick-zebra-humbucker

May I ask you if the holes showing the wire are just round OR if they form a circle containing a square?

EDIT - to answer to my own drivel about Shaw's, I've searched in my archives some related pics... In fact, the "squares" in the circle holes of a Shaw appear to be very subtle and require a serious zoom on the image to be seen... FWIW.

Ok, thx. For the record, below is a Tim Shaw that I've pictured a while back (DavidRavenMoon was among those who helped me to ID it in 2011. LOL. Thx again, David).
