Gibson SG 61RI > P90 conversion finally finished

This thing is pretty cool. I try not to have too many of the same guitars and this was real close in pickups and tone to my '78 Standard so I decided to change it up a bit. Took minimal routing, but its permanent so there's no going back to a small pickguard. Sounds fantastic, very stratty in the neck and beefy in the bridge. I think the middle position is out of phase though, has that thin cocked-wah thing going on. I don't really use that position anyway so not sure I'll bother with it anytime soon.

• SG Classic pickguard

i love SG's with P90's... hell i love most guitars with P90's..... just curious if you had thought about using the Humbucker sized P90's over the complete mod to the gutar

I think the big guard looks better with P90's. My '78 standard has a small guard with humbuckers so I got that covered, didn't want two so similar.

Didn't you sell another 61 Reissue to Bruce Kulick a few years ago?

Yep, at a local Starbucks and he brought a battery-powered mini-Marshall to jam on it and test drive it. I go through a lot of gear, SG's included.

Looks good. I'm not a massive fan of the big guard in general but agree that it works well with P90s.

I'm sometimes gassing for a small guard Special, one day...
