Gibson SG Fred Pickup In The Neck?

I currently have a nickel covered Fred pickup in the bridge position of my SG..I ordered a VPAF Hot and a BroBucker to try in place of the Fred....

How does the Dimarzio Fred workout in the neck? I currently have a stock 59N in the guitar...Thought about moving the Fred to the neck.

Re: Gibson SG Fred Pickup In The Neck?

The fred works fine in the neck with a higher output pickup in the bridge. However, the Fred is higher output than the VHPAF according to Dimarzio.

I've tryed it in the neck position on two different guitars. One was a bright superstrat with a Tone Zone in the bridge position. Ironically, I thought the Fred was too thick and bassy in that guitar, when in the neck position. The other guitar was a mohogony tele, that I had a Super D in the bridge while waiting for some boutique PAF's. The fred was actually pretty nice there, and balanced nicely with the super D. I think the Fred was actually more articulate in the neck on that guitar than a PAF.

Hope that helps...
