Thats way too much. You can usually find Standards used for about $900, sometimes less. Seeing how you can routinely find sales on new Specials for around $900 I'd think a used gothic might be more like $600.

id have to look at it in person of course.

ithe 490s are good pickups?

Yes. Very good PAF's. However, I personally like them better with an A5 in the 490R (neck) which gives more clarity, and a higher output magnet in the 490T (bridge), like an A5 or A8. Lots of guys love them with the stock magnets. I don't hear 490's getting as much praise as '57's & BB's, but to me they're all in the same class. Maybe one reason is that the 490R is often paired with a 498T, which is a total mismatch EQ-wise, and in comparison the 490R sounds very dark.

Re: Gibson sg special vs sg standard

the blue book of electric guitars states that the MOST a gothic sg should be worth is 725.

it also says the MOST a faded is worth is around 580.

both sellers are overpricing.

based on the fact that both guitars are used, i was thinking about offering around 500-700 for the gothic and around 400-500 for the faded.

the gothic is what im really after, since after reading up on them at various sites (and the guitar is supposedly stock) it has 490 humbuckers.

Re: Gibson sg special vs sg standard

the gothics are okay. (way better than a faded) but you'd be much happier with a Standard SG. The feel of those faded ones are just kind of cheap...
