Re: Gibson stop bar questions.

tried it for the first time the other day - really liking it. all the angles are improved and the guitar feels better on the whole. it's been ages since i've changed strings and they're a different brand so i won't guess as to whether or not there's more sustain yet, but it definitely feels a bit better

Re: Gibson stop bar questions.

Thanks for asking this question Dan. I was curious about this myself and about to make a post but checked the search first and there she was. Have you tried the top wrap? I think I'll give 'er a go. The LP is due for a string change. Thanks for all the input guys.

Peace,

Darrin

Darrin,
I tried it once a long time ago. I might try it again on my Les Paul Special. It is a darker sounding guitar being all mahogany. I have tried bright wires to liven it up a bit. Maybe a top wrap will help too? :dunno:

Re: Gibson stop bar questions.

I'm also curious about the possibility of additional sustain and resonance. I don't think I'll be able to lock the tailpiece down against the body because of the string angle. So, it's going to have to be a top wrap if I'm gonna lock'er down. I'll let you know my thought's tomorrow after the re-string.

Peace,

Darrin

Be looking forward to read your post bro!

Re: Gibson stop bar questions.

I have tried some nickel washers between the stopbar studs and the body to raise the height but keep the 'acoustic coupling' factor...it gets the same result, pretty much, with some added mass.

Re: Gibson stop bar questions.

Great comments. I've got some guitars top wound and some through wound. The only difference I can tell is that I sometimes get my hand stuck by the string's backwinding as it comes over the back of the tailpiece.

Any of you have this problem?

Solutions?
