Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Looks like Gibson is now run by lawyers ... bad sign.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Gibson no longer wants these boutique dealers and is doing whatever they can to dump them, no matter how long they've been together. This is just an excuse to drop Elderly as a dealer. They weaded out a bunch in the first round of dealer purchase requirements and hang space. Now they're unoading those who survived by other means, such as this. Gibson wants to be the Walmart of guitars, and MF/GC is helping them do that. Its the begining of the end.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

That's why I'll never buy a Gibson.. Knowing that I'm buying a guitar from a greedy company doesn't float my boat.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Elderly should just tell Gibson to shove their stuff and drop Gibson altogether.

Just buy used and you'll be able to sleep at nights. :)

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

i like elderly because they have many good pics of the instruments they sell.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Considering that Elderly probably sold no more than 3 of those Banjos, I think Gibson is doing themselves more harm than good.

Gibson better start thinking of their public image before it's too late. I love Gibson guitars, but I can't condone their uber-corporate tactics. Musicians are a fickle bunch, and if Gibson keeps acting like Walmart, they may find a whole generation of guitar players despising their products, no matter how 'classic' they are.

I like my Gibsons, but if Gibson starts looking like Walmart, Starbucks, and Enron, I may find myself selling them off for some PRS, Grosh, Anderson, McNaught, Heatley, Suhr, or other Custom built guitars.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

in 20 years time Gibson will stop producing guitars and focus on what they do best:
being a law firm.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

this is getting sad...more and more news of gibsons horrid buisness ethics and crappy QC. man i'm almost ashamed to own 2 gibsons. i've contemplated selling both my les pauls many times just b/c they are not the kind of company i want to be associated with. i know this for sure, any live gigs i play in the future will NEVER be played on a gibson unless it has tape over the headstock logo. it's depressing that a once great company is destroying themselves in the eyes of many.

I went to Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan for a couple of years, and I went to Elderly Instruments as often as I could. It is a world-class guitar store with amazing new and vintage guitar selection, excellent accessories and CDs/videos/books department, helpful, knowledgeable staff, and a first-rate repair shop. To this day, it is among my few very favorite guitar stores. I am firmly on their side. This is just another nail in the coffin as far as my being an (ex-)Gibson customer.

Wow, this makes me change how I feel about Gibson. Unbelievable! And how could anybody not want Elderly as a dealer? I've bought mail order from Elderly a number of times....they're great!. Much rather buy from them than go down to the local GC.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

The sad reality it is that its "us" that have set the current Gibson tone. Its "us" that flock to Wal Mart to shop, and let the mom-&-pop places dwindle and die. We want the cheapest price.

Gibson has simply payed attention and is now molding their marketing model to fit how we act.

We "voted", once again, with our green ballots. :blackeye:

I didn't vote for them jacking the price of their bluegrass instrument line by 38%. They don't even sell those at MF anymore. Groan, I've been sucked into another Gibson thread! :smack:

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

By "us" I meant the general buying public. "We" in this forum, are a small minority. ;)

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Gibson corporation is nothing but skumbags :fing25: I can afford them but I will never again buy one.

I understand what you meant. :) It's all the guys who reach a certain age and level of disposable income who want to live out their guitar fantasies and have no problem throwing down too much cash for that holy name on the headstock. Harley-Davidson syndrome.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

This feels like the discussions we have on the sony online entertainment forums about sony.

Easy way to fix things is to boycott. Keep what you have, but never buy from them again, and never buy them used again, as to make them very low value.

Re: Gibson sues Elderly Instruments...

Boycott Gibson! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
