Gibson VOS LP Junior DC vs SC

Re: Gibson VOS LP Junior DC vs SC

The lollar just sounds better. Its definitely not grittier. If anything probably the opposite, the stock gibson is was harsher while the Lollar was smoother, warmer, went into crunch easier with a slightly thicker tone. The lollar was the best P90 ive ever heard. My friend's dad has a Les Paul Junior and put in 4 different pickups. Stock Gibson, Lollar, Duncan Antiquity and a vintage Gibson from 56. He has the vintage one in there now, but the Lollar to my ears sounded BETTER. The vintage one isn't as chunky. The Antiquity sounded most like the vintage one obviously - brighter and thinner than the lollar from what I heard. And the stock gibson sounded the brightest and just the least inspiring.

I also hear the Fralin P90 is amazing, but that Lollar sounded incredible!! Antiquity sounded great too, and no doubt the vintage one sounds amazing. But I liked the Lollar the best.

Thank you very much for the pickup info..A quick check at Harmony Central indicates two different P90's:

Jason Lollar Custom P-90
Jason Lollar P-90

Is the one you're talking about the standard Lollar P-90?

After spending so much time with my SG, I really have no problem with the strap button being in that spot. It's much like a neck profile, the more you use different kinds, the more you get used to all of them.

Re: Gibson VOS LP Junior DC vs SC

As far as I'm concerned, there is only one Lollar P90 out there. Probably just an error refering to the same product. Check out their website, it lists the dogear and the soapbar, so yeah, different mounts, same pickup. Maybe the custom one refers to someone calling up Jason and getting a P90 custom wound for him. In that case, the standard one is the one you wanna be lookin at.

OK, thanks..Something to consider looking into in the future (if I dislike the stock Gibby PU)..
