i was looking into those les paul GT's cause they have some badass features, but theyre $2500! theres no way its got $500 more worth of features than the LP standard. its rediculous. standards are overpriced as it is. ahhhhh.

.....anybody wanna make a donation? :laugh2:

oh and in case anybody was wondering, this all came about cause i saw the black one for the first time. the others look kinda cheesy with the flames, but the black is much more subtle

I love em too, but I don't want to sell my car for one. That's why I play a rickenbacker and a lowend gibby.

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

the problem i have with these...the flame pattern sucks!! if they ditch the flames i'd consider an orange one or green one just because those colors look cool on a paul.....but again the flames kill it for me being that they are a horrid pattern.

Am I the only person who LOVES the flame on the black one? I'd have to get a GT in red though, how can you chrome out a guitar without red paint?

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

$2500 for a guitar that is worth $1500 MAX IMO. Thats it, I have had enough! I am boycotting Gibson Officially now! If people keep buying them, the prices will stay the same or go even higher every 6 months like they have been. Aint getting no more of my money unless alot of things change.

I'm sure Gibson is really sweating the fact that you are boycotting them :smack:

Yea, they're probably hoping people won't buy them so they can stop selling them then ebay them for like $50k each.

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

I wanted to get an ES-335 reissue with my dad cause he used to have one that got stolen. Base price was $1999. They wanted an extra $750 to get it in natural ash, which is the color my dad likes. What a rip off!

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

Awesome! Now that you two are boycotting them, that means more LPs for the rest of us!

But in all seriousness, just buy Epiphone! It's damn near the same guitar, just not made in America. They are really incredible for the money.

Why don't you go for a Heritage. It's made in probably the same place your dad's 335 came from. And they'll make it to exactly his specs for a little extra. He'll be surprised to find that even the quality's better than Gibson.

Why don't you order a black LP and put the flames on yourself with decals? Much cheaper and this way you can take 'em off when you're upgrading to play in a gospel group!

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

Buy used! Gibson's new prices are riduclous, but good deals can be had on used stuff.

335 guy?
Here ya' are!

I don't see myself ever buying a new Gibson, but a used one is a different story.

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

I've owned more than 15 LPs and none was bought new !

LPs don't worth the retail price , 30-50% overpriced to me .

I sold almost all my Gibbies to buy PRSi instead.

A couple of month ago I bought a '79 black LP custom for 2500 $ and it's the best souding LP I've ever owned ! It's a back breaking axe but with a killer tone !
Don't know how a GT sound but you sure can find a used standard cheaper than that.

I also own a Blue Class 5 (custom shop) that I bought less than 3000 bucks and the flame on it are from a nice maple top ! But I think about selling it because compared to the custom it's tiny sounding !

So I think that 2500$ for a GT is way too expensive, check ebay or else for a cheaper one !

Re: @#$&$&@ gibson, why so much $$$

OK, a Standard is $2299.99 a GT is $2549.99, thats a total difference of $250. Now, the GT has different wiring with the factory push/pull pots, high pass filter and independent volume controls...Im not saying that those things are a major difference but it is more parts and more labor to wire them up. They also come with the flame on the face, no matter how ulgy you think it is it is again more materal and time to do it then it has an Ebony fingerboard, ebony costs a good bit more than rosewood. All in all I would say that $250 for those "upgrades" are just fine. If you don't like the flames why not just get a Stndard or even a Black or White Studio with an Ebony fingerboard.

Nobody complains about Fender guitars that are $2000-$3000 and those are alder and ash bodies with bolted on necks, nobody complains about the $2000+ guitars from Ibanez that have basswood bodies, or the $2000+ made in japan ESP guitars, the nearly $3000 made in japan Gretsch guitars, the close to (and over in some cases) $3000 Dean guitars...so why does everybody feel the need to hate Gibson?
