gibson

Re: gibson

I think the classic has an ABR bridge versus the nashville in the standard. The classic also has the aged to the point of looking green inlays. I don't think they use the long tenon in the classic though. I am not sure what pitch of the headstock they use on the standard or the classic for that matter.

Re: gibson

Headstock - Std has 59 shape and tuners have nuts. Classics are narrow 60's type w/push in bushings on tuners.

Neck - Stds come in 50's rounded/60's slim taper. Classics are slim 60's without taper.
The abalone inlays are bright and white on Stds....greenish on most newer Classics.

Pickups - Alnico 5 on Std. 498T and Burstbuckers- chrome covered. Classics have ceramic 500T uncovered.

Chrome hardware and nashville bridge on Stds. Nickel and ABR on Classics. You can tell by the retaining wire that holds the saddle bolts in place. I don't like them because they rattle.

I'm pretty sure that Gibson chooses slightly better grades of wood on Stds than on Classics, based on the Stds and 2 Classics I've owned and heard.
As a matter of fact, Gibson tends to choose their wood based on price point, so you're definitely getting better grades of mahogany, maple, and rosewood on higher end guitars than on lower end. Classics fall right in the middle somewhere.

Re: gibson

The most important differences:
$$$ Classic is cheaper

As for looks - Those yellowed inlays are dumb - but it's nice to know the mentally handicapped still have opinions that count in some businesses

Sonically/feel - zip.
