A couple of Gibson designs that I think are quite cool:

Not bad:

I love the Longhorn double cut! It looked even better in cherry sunburst:

Someday I would love to score one of these:

It's actually just the Trini Lopez. I don't know what that angular cutaway Trini Lopez is, but the original Trini Lopez is this:

The DG-335 is just a Trini Lopez with a T-O-M.

Grohl has always been a long-time fan of the Trini Lopez signature model guitar that Gibson built from 1964-1971. The Trini Lopez model was a striking take on Gibson's classic ES-335 semi-hollow body guitar which is a hybrid between a solidbody and a hollowbody. Grohl has a particular love for the Trini Lopez in a rare Pelham Blue color that was used by the Gibson Custom Shop in producing this limited model.

Re: Gibson's coolest guitar designs

The LP is one of their best designs (after it got the tune-o-matic). The 335 was (and, IMHO, is) a revolutionary design. Everything else was pure vanilla, from my point of view.

Re: Gibson's coolest guitar designs

Not sure if it'll ever catch on, but I've always liked this design!

Re: Gibson's coolest guitar designs

+1 for the Nighthawk

Though I'm not much of a Gibson person, I think one of the best ideas Gibson ever had was the MIII. A good one would probably hold its own against any other superstrat for versatility, playability etc. The other nice thing about it is that the body shape is not trying to be the Ibanez/Jackson/ESP/Schecter sort. But because guitarists are prejudiced/snobby when it comes to Gibson, these didn't last long.

Specs are poplar body, maple neck (maple or rosewood board) with slim taper profile, licensed Schaller Floyd, 496R-500T 'buckers and NSX single.

I also think those DC Les Pauls with the tapered headstock for straight string pull are pretty cool - I believe someone on the forum has a red flame top with P90s.
