Gibson's equivalent to the '59 Model?

Burstbucker Pro?

'57 Classic (Plus)?

All three rate around 8k.

Also, is there any book or resource that has the release dates of pickups from both companies?

It certainly isn't '57's, which have A2 magnets and a rounded high-end. Not even close. Ohm's are only part of the story.

The only thing Gibson has like a '59 is a BBP (both have A5's). You can also put an A5 in 490 and it's similar to a '59, but not as bassy.

And a BB Pro is wayyyyyyy down my list of classic PAF stylings.

+1 to what everyone has said, except that I'm not so down on the BBP as they are. It's not my favorite pup but it isn't so bad either. I prefer a a Demon, or a Custom, or a Pearly (yes, I know it's A2 but it isn't that much different sounding than an A5 PAF), to the BBP.

Ok so to butt in, I hated my BB Pro in the neck position. If it is sonically similar to the '59, should I stay away from that model too?

There is no equivalent in the gibson lineup to the sound of a 59 model.

Is there a particular sound you are hoping to get in your axe with a pickup swap?
