Just for fun. Which do you guys prefer, and why?

I personally prefer a nice gigbag because they're much easier to carry from place to place, and they weigh a lot less. I don't need any other worldly protection for my guitars though because I don't gig that often, and when I do it's only a car ride away (usually my own car).

What about you? Case? Gigbag? No case?

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I always go case....just to be safe. Although I did buy a nice gigbag to fly to UGD at the SD factory in 05, I ultimately bought another hard case because I was worried about damage. I would just rather have the peace of mind a hard case brings, because with my luck the worst possible thing usually happens.

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I just recently watched a documentary about one of my favourite bands and when they were on tour, the singer/guitarist used to just jam his guitar in between the outside metal wall of the van and the sheets of wood bolted to it on the inside. Apparently it drove his roadie and tour manager ****ing nuts.

I have a decent enough case for my Westone that I sort of own by accident but I'd be happy enough bringing it around in a gigbag. Having said that, the only time it's been out of my house was on a bus trip to the tech and back. Maybe I'll feel different when I own a more expensive instrument and start gigging again.

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I think part of the reason I don't use a case is that they're effing expensive, and my guitars aren't lol. 60-100 dollars doesn't sound like as much when you're guitar costs upwards of $1000.

I have a coffin case under my bed, but those are from my darker times as an angsty middle schooler. :)

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I have 7 guitars and 3 cases --- I put my 335 in an acoustic guitar case when I gig it

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

Hard shell cases all the time, but there's only 2 or 3 that I use for any guitar I own.

My favorite case is the tan/pink LP case that has Seymour W. Duncan signed on the top of it.

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

InCase gig bag for me. I'm not sure if I've carried a guitar in a hard case since 2003.

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I voted hard case but mine are the "soft case" versions
the Martin came with the stiff paper board case
and I have two of the Roadrunner soft foam cases
they are much lighter and stack well

mine rarely leave the house either

with that said

my buddy was gigging some time back
when he propped his 60's jazz bass against the back of the van
and went to get his amp
when the drummer turned the van around to load it it left a tire mark across the SKB case, crushing the hinges - making the metal binding pop off

the guitar was still in tune and gigs today

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

I'm the guy who tosses his guitars in the back of his car. Maybe if I ever pass the $400 quality mark I'll protect em better.

Re: Gigbag vs. Case

Case for every thing!!! even my 100 buck guitar. why be cheep when you can just pay 70 bucks more and use the case for other guitars

Not necessarily a cheep thing. My gig bag cost more than a lot of hard shell cases. It just a helluvalot easier to carry than a case and protects almost as well.

Because being cheap is the only way to survive on minimum wage in college :D
