Gigged with the hybrid Friday night

First I want to thank BachToRock for assembling this pup for me...kudo's to you, bro.

I played a four hour gig and I'm still jazzed. Played all sorts of music,,, Rock, Blues, Country and some slow stuff and the hybrid (59/custom) sounded good for everything. Here is a short rundown.

Clean - Very fat & smooth sounding, I usually don't use a bridge bucker for many clean tones, but I may use it more often now. Maybe it is because of my 250K pot, oh well it don't matter, I'm a happy camper.

Slightly Overdriven - Boost engaged on my Palomino - Nice slight breakup and a little sustain. Used the tone for "Honky Tonk Woman" and it excelled at that type of tone, very convincing.

Medium O.D. - Barber LTD - Holy Tone Batman!!!! Allman Brothers sounding, sweet and singing. I used the hybrid mixed with the neck (SSL-1) and we played "Can't You See" and got that sweet mid position Les Paul type tone. We have to work up a BB king tune ,just so I can use that tone.

Saturated - Palomino OD channel - Van Halen territory, very complex and harmonics just come out and bite you in the backside. No mud with a good bottom end, I'm sold on this pup. You folks who are like me and play a variety of music ought to try this out...this is the most versatile & musical set up that I've ever had the pleasure to own and on the inexpensive side, too.

I would have reviewed the tone of the Spina modded Sparkledrive as well, but alas, the switch is crapping out again. (Not John's fault...had switch problems prior to the mod).

Later.............................Joe

Very cool Hybrid Brother! I'm curious as to whether my Brobucker will be as good or better than my A2 C/59 Hybrid? The BB will be going in my SG cause this Hybrid stays in my Love Rock.

If you do it yourself...You need a Custom pickup and a 59 or PG....Bachtorock does them and I can't quote his price, and I've done quite a few for forum members also....I'd like to not take any business away from Bachtorock though, but either way you could do it yourself also...

Re: Gigged with the hybrid Friday night

FYI... the specific pickup I put together for Bungalowbill is a Custom screw/59 slug with an Alnico 5 magnet and a Nickel Cover... it was $85.00... $10.00 less without the cover!

I flipped the magnet and wired it Green as Hot and Black as ground so it would be in-phase and hum-cancelling with the SSL-1's when split to single coil. Joe wanted the most authentic tone when combined with the single coils and the screw coil is closest to where a traditional strat bridge pickup would be... the high "E" polepieces are the same and a strat pickup slants to about midway through the humbucker at the low "E".

Alright, thanks. I wouldn't be able to piece one together myself, legally blind.

I'll PM one of you for a qoute.

I don't think you will be disappointed. The Custom/59 does a lot of things well & nails VH tone.

How do you read the forums? :nana:

Re: Gigged with the hybrid Friday night

There is a program called JAWS that acts as a screen reader. I am basicaly able to navigate my computer via the keyboard and short cut keys/commands. The program acts as a reader basicaly. It costs about $1,200, but the state usually provides the funding for the program. If this seems sketchy, my disease is called choroideremia, look it up.

I dont mean to sound snide, but I'd honestly think wack too if someone said im legally blind but was some how on the net, haha. technology these days.
