Gilmour Gear From The Wall

Anybody fill me in on what pups, amps, stomps etc.. David Gilmour would have used on the original Wall recordings?

Re: Gilmour Gear From The Wall

I know he probably used his No. 0001 Strat, some sort of Hiwatt amp, a Sovtek Big Muff Pi, and tons of rack-mounted effects.

Sorry, but that's all I know.

Re: Gilmour Gear From The Wall

I believe the strat was his Black early 60's strat that he used mostly thru the 70's Floyd period.... he had added a locking trem to that strat in the 80's and later had it removed... that same strat showed up on the Live 8 concert and you could see the area were the Kalher trem rout had been filled back in with wood and the paint touched up....

David has said many times the solo to Another Brick was recorded with an early 50's Les Paul Gold Top with P90's... I have seen a live show from Earls Court 1980 down loaded from the net and David also used that LP to play that song live.....

Amps were most likey either his customized Hiwatts and his Fender Twins and Bassmans......

Lots of effects... somewhere on the net there is a lay out of Davids pedalboard from that period..... it's on Roger Mayers site....

wow I thought for sure that he was using a ton of chorus but it was a flanger . Well I'll have to run out and get me an Electric Mistress. thanks

I'm getting good results with a Choralflange. A little more money on the used market, but has the option of chorus.

You want to know Gilmour's gear? You are soooo SCREWED! lol

He is a mad man! Often he uses an Alembic bass pre on his signal from the outset. He goes thru innumerable combinations of effects. On the album he used a lot of post processing. And my fave sound - Another Brick Part 2 - that solo is actually routed out of the board to an amp and re-recorded with a mic with added distortion and compression.

Then go back to Dark Side, Gilmour is likely to do 2 - 5 takes where he doesn't necessarily use the same guitar throughout, and then he splices sections together.

As a Floyd fanatic, I can tell you that people above mentioning Hiwatts, Strats, and mayyyybe a Big Muff us the way to start. From there you use your ear. It's not like ape-ing Slash or old Clapton where it's much easier to achieve in terms of rig and equipment. Gilmour is very much about the studio.

Re: Gilmour Gear From The Wall

I've heard the another brick in the wall solo was done with an LP with p-90s. I don't know if I believe that as it sure as sh1t sounds like a Strat to me but whatever, I've played that solo so many times I can play it flawlessly on my Strat and have it sound exactly the same. It's kinda sad but it's all good.
