According to Guitarist magazine (UK), David Gilmour's black Strat will be the next Fender Signature model made!!!!! LONG OVERDUE

Fender waited too long and I've already made my own, lol.

Re: Gilmour Signaure Strat

Interesting to see what it has for pickups...

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

Apparently they are doing the measurements now, and it is reported to have stock Fender singles in it now.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

Yeah, but what they're specing out and what it ends up being could be very different.

When Fender put out the Clapton "Signature Model" it was the first time they'd put those pickups and the TBX in one place at the same time. Some of the core elements such as the body wood, neck profile and frets were based on the specs of "Blackie" but after that it was a total grab bag of things Clapton wanted versus what he had been using.

Gilmour's a tinkerer and Fender has alot to offer. It wouldn't surprise me if he was interested in creating something with Fender that's more of a hybrid between his EMG era and the more traditional types he has played.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

A comparison to the Eric Johnson strat would be interesting. :13:

But each will serve another purpose, I think.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

Oh wow. I'll look out for it.

I do hope it is akin to the EJ Strat in terms of quality. Fender's last sig. Strat wasn't great. I've never even heard of John Mayer tbh.

I agree. Whatever Fender and Gilmour decide for pups should at least be of the noiseless variety, I would think.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

Aside from exactly copying the scratches and wear, isn't it just going to be a strat that anyone can build from good quality parts? Unless there are custom made pup's for it, isn't the rest just going to be a CS strat?

Well, there's where the questions start coming up...is it going to be a reliced recreation of one single instrument or is it going to be a Signature model?

...and wasn't that the same Strat that had been carved out for a Kahler at one point in time? That seems like an unlikely candidate for a reliced recreation.

Exactly! This is the beauty of Leo's designs. With all the aftermarket parts available, I haven't owned a REAL fender in years and I get to make my own Signature guitar.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

I'm a fan of THE EXACT guitar. New vs relic'd, I don't care. But let's be authentic. Let's face it. Claptonites want BLACKIE. Ace fans want smoke - not zap inlays & faces on the headstock. The Jimmy Page is the ONE thing Gibson got totally right! Maybe the Zakk

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

Meh.

Fender could kill off 60% of their strat variations and it wouldn't break my heart.

That's what I was wondering as well. Will they route it for a Kahler and fill it back in? Plus the neck has been changed several times.

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

I thought he had EMGs

He used them for a period. Not anymore. As of last interview I read, and as stated by Christian above, he's using a set that Seymour wound for him.

Yeah.

The Pete Townshend Gibsons were pretty darn good for a Signature.. they got those right.... except for the 1st fret inlay on the Les Pauls.... But still the LP's, the Sg's and the J200's were all pretty much exactly like Pete's stage guitars....

I'd love to see a Pete Signature Strat oneday

This Gilmour Strat sounds great... but that Black strat of his has had so many necks and pickup changes, different bridges and so on, it really is a kit guitar more or less... Real custom job.... I always loved the 1984 red strats he used in the 80's and 90's... I guess a new USA 57 reissue is a Gilmour model, maybe add the EMG's if you wanted that sound...

but ya i'll be interested as to what the end specs for teh gilmour will be... most interested in neck shape, pickups, and finnish options...

Re: Gilmour Signature Strat

But... Pete plays Clapton Strats! I'm so confused.

If you take a look at Petes Custom Strats based on the old Claptons the specs are very different....

New Stock EC strats has Vintage Bridge and Tuners, and the latest Clapton has the noiseless pickups...

Petes custom shop EC's are very different.... they have a neck shape that is a slightly harder V like the 80's EC's had... Fender softened the V shape sometime in the 90's i heard. Pete uses the older Gold Lace Sensors... He has Sperzel locking tuners and a 2 post Fishman bridge.. The guitar is wired stereo... Fishman to an Acoustic amp rack and the Laces to his Vibro Kings...

Plus Pete uses some in a custom Gold finnish.. The guitars Pete use are no longer the same as Erics Signature.... Even in late 80's to Mid 90's Petes EC's had locking trems on them... some with Floyds and some with Spyders

There could be a PT Signature issued
