If they are going to do a "tribute series" (custom shop EXACT reps.) they wouldn't do it of his black one...they'd do it of his 0001 one. (or whatever the number is, the one dated -march i think- 1954).

Mind you, I can't wait to see what they'd have on a signature guitar for him. I'm guessing alder body, maple pretboard with a 7.25" radius with a c or v shape...can't wait!

I always thought Gilmour and Murray (Maiden) deserved sig. strats!

The most widely one I know is the candy apple red 1957 reissue with EMG pickups and shortened trem arm which he used in the 80's and 90's.

I hear he only used the EMG's live to cut back on the noise caused by the extensive stage setup

That will most likely be a feature on these, the shortened arm. Thats what I hear about the EMG's as well.

cool photo.... man in that shot you can see where they filled in the wood from a Kahler he had on it in the mid 80's.... I want to do the same repair to a Kramer striker guitar i have... i bought it cheap to steal the aftermarket Floyd Rose and Dimarzio pickups someone stuck on this thing..... But after i remove the good hardware from this plywood body i was thinking of filling in the wood and either use a cheap Squier trem or a cheap Hardtail bridge i have sitting here... maybe turn it into a slide guitar....

Seymour owned that strat before Gilmour and may have been the one that actually sold that to Dave. I can't remember.

In the pic you see his black one has that little switch above the 5-way, to add in the neck pickup with the bridge. Kind of neat.

Do you think if asked, the SD Custom shop would sell pickups with the same specs as those Seymour made for David?

I believe Fender is going to use the pups that Mr. Duncan wound for Mr. Gilmour.:smoker:

Not too often. IIRC, the last time he used it was at a Fender Strat 50th anniversary gig a few years ago.

I agree...these details are unnecesary but fun for fans to obsess over, regardless.

That would be great if Fender did put the Duncans in.

I'm not too sure about nailing those tones, it'll get you close, but there are a lot of differences between that and the Strats the Gilmour uses, namely the bridge, which on the American Strat is a two-point bridge compared the the vintage six-point tremolo on Gilmour's guitars.

that is the real key to his sound... getting pedals to sound as good as his does... not easy...

But ya a good 57 reissue could be concidered the DG Signature model...

PS..... me on a tight budget would never be able to afford a new American 57 reissue.. but this afternoon i was thinking a budget Floyd strat for me may be a black HWY1.... the new ones with the 70's style headstock like Dave Gilmour's 1970 one had in the Floyds 70's days...

A Bassman or 2 is the bases of his 80's-90's studio tones..... Used Twins in the 70's in the studio a lot... Anything that will give a huge clean/slightly o.d. tone
