Well if you can tell the difference in the black strat before and after the Kahler installation by judging the sound from the recording of comfortably numb when he used a ton of studio wizardry and then by his recent sound then hats of to you.............

Hmm I think I remember something now!
He gave the neck to his brother, who still has it!
It had all kinds of Fender necks and at a point also a Charvel maple neck, now it has some newer RI 57 neck??

If I have children, they will listen to Gilmour in the crib. Maybe in the womb. Let's hope I find a lady cool enough to blast David Gilmour at herself.

EJ's Strat is a bit pricey for my intended use- $1700 new and $1400 used???
Currently I have the EMG DG-20 in my Malmsteen strat. The Malmsteen Strat, with the Dimarzios, gave a nice strat tone, but since they were low output, lacked the sustain I wanted.
With the EMG DG-20- the Malmsteen Strat now has more sustain than any of my guitars- the Gibson Les Paul Custom included. Problem is the EMG SA's don't have the vintage single coil tone, have too much midrange, and sound like a cross between a P-90 and a Humbucker. And that's without turning the SPC control up which is supposed to make the singles sound like a Humbucker. The SA's have a very fat strat tone.
So, I'm looking for a reasonably priced Candy Apple Red Strat with the vintage tint maple neck to put the EMG's in so that'll be the Gilmour guitar. I could use a MIM Fender in Chrome Red- that's close- I'll just have to spray the neck amber and install a Callaham tremolo.

As I've said before, Live at Pompeii kicks any other live DVDs ass, IMO. Yes, I believe it was filmed in 1972.
As for all these signature guitars that crop up, I'm allured at first, but that feeling is quickly eclipsed by a lot of head-scratching. These signature guitars have all the features, details and trappings that particular artist sought for his particular tone, feel and -- to a lesser degree -- look. Why should a highly customized Strat, Les Paul or whatever suit you just as it suited the signator? If you wear a size 9 shoe, would you switch to 10-1/2 just because that's the size your hero wears? Perhaps that's an oversimplification, but I'm sure you're catching my drift right about now. However, if that's what you're after, as others have said, you can achieve the same thing by constructing your own Parts-caster, Les Parts or whatever.
If it's nostalgia or the aesthetic that's got ya, it's your money (or credit card), so spend how you like. Just know that you're paying a criminal premium for that replica, with all its idiosyncratic nooks and crannies.
It's so easy to be swayed by the very thought that you could sound just like David Gilmour on that legendary "Comfortably Numb" solo…but you won't, signature axe or not. That said, I'm sure it'll be a great guitar in and of itself, regardless of who endorses it. Just look that the Jimmy Vaughan Strat -- people gush over it, and I think that's because it's just a freakin' great guitar.

There are 2 early 80's Les Pauls at a store near me that were routed for Kahlers, then Kahlers removed, route filled in, and returned to stock and refinished. No one wants them.

I don't care for Jimmy Vaughn, and never heard his music or the Fabulous Thunderbirds. I did play his strat at Guitar Center, and it had a nice V neck that I've only found on the $1400 Clapton signature or 1957 Custom Shop Reissue. It's also got the bridge and tuners found on the high end Fender- the Custom Shop and Artist models. The pickups were nice too, and had medium jumbo frets. For around $550 it was the nicest strat I found under $1200.

I respect your ability to have a viewpoint. However many may have issues with respecting the views of someone when they post their age as NINE years old. Might I point out that in no way is this personal, but it makes it very difficult to gather a basis for your argument, when so little is known about you.
I've been a huge PF fan for years, and I love the Floyd EMG years, especially live. It doesn't mean I don't love passive pickups either, by the way, I just don't have a problem with the Actives I own, which in this case are the DG spec.
If you like Passives or solely SD's then that's your call. In my biz it would be like arguing Kodak Vs. Fuji Vs. HD, or Panavision Vs Arri Vs Sony.
I do not care...I really really dislike EMGs quite alot....hate that dreadful tone they have.
Never liked the sound he had with those...while the playing and music was great...the sound of those things....ew!

I disagree. Did you not listen to his tone at Live 8? It gave me goosebumps.
Mind you usually that is the case and hey...maybe it did sound better before the kahler but it definatly did not RUIN anything.

i'm not sure that strat was a 57... i heard it's a 1970 black strat body... it had a large headstock neck on it, a few smaller headstock necks on it... some rosewood boards, some all maple....
but judging from Wall tour photos from 1980/81 he had at least 2 of these black strats that looked exactly the same.. there is photos out there of his stage rig from the Wall tour.... but at the same time the 2nd black strat maybe for the guitarist from the substitute band members that open the Wall shows wearing masks of the real Floyd members faces on them... That was pretty strange stuff.....
