Gimmie some boost options

Re: Gimmie some boost options

Super interested to see what works for you in the end.

Me too. And I say that because he couldn't get ANY of these to work.

Xotic SL Drive
MXR Il Torino
MXR FET driver
Mad Professor Sweet Honey
Way Huge Saucy Box
Budda Zenman boost/OD (rebadged Carl Martin DC drive)
T.Rex Mudhoney
EHX Soul Food (Supposedly Klon clone)
EHC OD Glove (OCD clone)

I was going to say MXR Micro Amp - but that would be an obvious fail for this individual. I'm throwing in the "can't be happy" flag. Like I said - if NONE of the above worked for you, you have an OCD problem....and I'm not talking about the pedal.

Re: Gimmie some boost options

Keeley Katana or Time Machine Boost.... or some other treble booster should do it.

Ouch, harsh [emoji1]

Nobutsrsly, basically all of them were too gainy. End result was this fuzzy over-saturated sound, think more blown speaker rather than overdrive or distorted

I'm not well versed enough in this stuff, evidently. Isn't a treble booster just for added high end, as the name suggests?

Yes and no. It drives the preamp tubes harder, but because its cutting off bass, then the mods also bloom. Wait...

I know exactly what you need. An original gold Klon Centaur. Go light on the gain knob, using it primarily as a clean boost. Check ebay and reverb. Great deals abound.

Check out some YouTube clips of the Keeley TMB.... I think it would work for you. It is an awesome pedal for kicking your amp where it hurts but maintaining clarity and note definition, don't be put off by the "treble booster" name.

Re: Gimmie some boost options

I would look at the Mesa Tone-Burst pedal, if you want a clean boost that can get slightly dirty.

If you want more dirt and the ability to get different tones from the pedal, then I would suggest looking at the Radial Tone Bone Hot British or the Carl Martin Plexi-Tone, which has two drive stages and a clean boost.

Re: Gimmie some boost options

Not sure if it's what you're looking for....fairly transparent & duplicates cranking your amp. So if you like your current sound but just want MORE of it, this will do it:

The 'Dragon interacts with your amp dynamically - think of it as an external gain stage. If your amp is set clean, with a lot of headroom left, then you can expect a straight up volume boost from the 'Dragon that doesn't color or alter your tone. If your amp is set on the edge of breakup with a little grit already on the sound, then the 'Dragon will push you over the edge into a sweet, natural overdrive that comes from the amp itself.

Here's their site (the clips suck !): http://lizardlegeffects.com/pedals/dragon.html

This is a better representation, but still sounds better in person:

I use 2: one set low to thicken things up a bit & 1 to kick it all over the edge :beerchug:

Re: Gimmie some boost options

Well, since I'm in a bit of a rush I decided to just get some Tone City stuff - a Bad Horse and a Golden Plexi, since they're dirt cheap and then sell them off once I've had a chance to drink deeper from the kool-aid. So was just about to place the order today, when I stumbled upon the lo-gain version of the CM Plexitone, and now I'm damn near back to square one.

Truth be told, I'm not really a fan of my crunch cahnnel anymore. That was half the reason why I wanted an OD pedal - to change the sound of the crunch channel into something more Marshall-esque, without having to resort to dirtboxes through the clean cahnnel (which i have set for a pretty glassy sound, so running a stompbox in front of it would probably sound pretty bad).

My goal - or part of it, at least - was that Marshall sound but every stompbox I've tried that's in that vein had, as I said, too much gain on tap to be useful in an already overdriven amp.

So no, something that just duplicates the sound I already have isn't all that interesting to me. That crunch channel sounded amazing when i played Duncan Invaders through it, but everything else... meh.

Re: Gimmie some boost options

Well, I was gonna offer to let you try one out, but then saw where you're located :2:

Did you get the Plexitone ? That's a pedal I once had & really liked but for whatever reason sold/traded off.

Get with Niels (Vashuu something or other on the Forum :D ) .....he worked/works for Carl Martin & turned me on to their things. PLUS he's in your neck of the woods !!! :bigthumb:

Re: Gimmie some boost options

I use a Pigtronix Class A boost running at 9v but you can run it at 18v and it is pretty slammin'
