Giovanni Pickups

Hi. Wondering if anyone can get me some info...

I’m trying to understand the sonic differences between the following models:

GVH-1
GVH-2
GCH-1
GVH-59

I get the differences “on paper”; alnico 3 vs 5, plain enamel wire vs formvar, etc. But I’m not entirely clear where each lands on the spectrum from bright to fuller sounding. The Altec website isn't super clear on this.

I have a Giovanni guitar, spalted maple. I put a JB set in and that guitar is just about as good as any guitar I own. Frickin screams, low action, no buzz, stays in tune. Nice geetar There stuff is Chinese now, I bet the pickups are too. They used to be made in Brazil, some of their upper tier acoustic instruments still are and are of the highest quality. The pickups were no Duncans, for what its worth

Re: Giovanni Pickups

I've never tried them so I can't speak to individual models.

My understanding is that they used to be sort of a premium line. They garnered some good reviews eight or so years ago, but they may be quite different now - I think nowadays Giovanni is the budget line and the deluxe ones are called Milestone.

Was curious about 'em for awhile but kind of lost interest when they switched over and I couldn't find anything out about the new line. I emailed Artec and eventually got a reply saying Milestones were coming out soon but they didn't give me any info about sellers. That was three or four years ago as I remember.

For budget import humbuckers with a pretty good reputation, you might take a look at Tonerider.

Also bear in mind that for what new import pickups cost, you could probably get a set of used Duncans or DiMarzios.
