Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

I’m also not a fan of Billy Sheehan’s wall of chorus bass tone.

Sheehan is a guitarist masquerading as a bass player. You have to judge his tone as that of a really down tuned guitar, not really a bass.

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

Bootsy Collins uses a lot of chorus on his tone and still seems to get work.

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

I like the way (Dean?) DeLeo used chorus to fatten up his crunchy ass guitars in STP. I prefer it more subtle than the tones that probably pop into your head, but it's a cool sound IMO.

We love chorus, don’t ignorus

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

He's using 4 Tweed Twins now. His JB signature amps. I think one or two of them may be older vintage models but he has at least one of his recent sig amps out there. His Rig Rundown video that's fairly recent shows them. He's got a massive live tone. Very simple rig really.

He certainly knows what hes doing and is an authority -probably should read more on his thoughts.

-now if he could only stop staring into his Instagram videos like he's masterbating to you watching him riff......

Stop it Joe! just because people are.... doesn't mean you have to watch.

Purple rain and Chorus should be synonyms

Yeah, but Bootsy could make a crowd dance with a thick rubber band stretched over a cardboard box.

damn right. the man is groove incarnate

Since nobody is addressing the elephant in the room, I'll go ahead: Can any of you, in your heart of hearts, say that you don't honestly and unironically love the sticky sweetness of chorus-drenched eighties pop metal, at least as an occasional treat?

Sorry, can't say that I do. I tried, but I only lasted about 40 seconds before I couldn't take any more. Generally I'm just not that into pop metal / hair metal, so not a huge surprise.

That song reminds me of Judas Priest-You've Got Another Thing Comin, which seems to be another example of chorused, overdriven tones. Generally speaking I don't care for those tones, and the chorus pedal on my board is in my 'clean' loop.

Ha. this is a perfect example of my aversion to Chorus -that Chorus kills the in your face balls of the guitar IMO -It makes the guitars sit back in the mix texturally speaking.

Have to admit -I enjoyed this overall though.

Whenever my girlfriend back in the '80s asked me when I would be home I would sing this walking out the door. I freaking love Krokus.

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

Since a lot of people already said Andy Summers (though early stuff like Walking On The Moon was an Electric Mistress) I’m going to say The Pretenders. I’ll single out James Honeyman-Scott’s clanging double-stops on Message Of Love and Robbie McIntosh’s everything on Time The Avenger.

As I am sure you understood, I picked that one on purpose. I agree with your assessment: If you are doing balls-to-the-wall metal then chorus might work in your disfavour. Here I think it puts the guitars in just the right sonic spot. It is also a pretty good song from what admittedly is a B-league band.

Damn, that Pretender's tone is f'in special.

Damn all of you for making me rethink my opinion on chorus.

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

I don't have much tolerance for the 80s chorused metal stuff, either- or without chorus, for that matter.

Re: Give me examples of what you consider good tonal use of Chorus pedals

When it came time for the derivative thrash weenies trying to out-Justice Justice, neither did I.
