Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

Just put a set of Pearly Gates in a Peavey Strat ( with a whole new electronic wiring system. ) Used the basic "everything axe set." 1 volume 2 tone and 5 way switch. After checking the calibration on each pickup I had to switch the neck and middle but hats off to Seymour and company - these single coil hum buckers are a flash of lightning to this guitar. If I can stop playing this triple hum buckin' machine I might start on my next project - an arch top that needs 2 full size hum buckers and you better believe I'm going with Seymour Duncan again on this one!!

Awesome! Happy it worked out! Do you have a pic of this beast?

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

very nice! glad you dig em. whyd you have to switch the neck and middle pups?

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

Hey Jeremy - the reason I switched the top 2 pickups was that I found the ohm configuration was gauged at : Neck 9.7K Middle 11.3K and
Bridge 12.8 K . So after calibrating with an Ohm meter that was the order I used. Now I am recalling that I should have checked the polarity of the pups and I did not. The polarity for a triple set of hum buckers is : North - South South - North North - South In order from the neck to the bridge, I am correctly stating ?

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

that wont matter very much unless you split the pups

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

That is not how that Peavey looked originally there sonny!

Looks like it ought to have Screamin' Demons in it if you ask me!

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

thats a nice looking axe!! Are the knobs clear with red inside?? Yeah, Ive learned LONG ago that a set of Duncans can REALLY wake up a guitar!!

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

I've never used a Pearly Gates bridge and the Pearly Gates Neck is my go to neck pickup for everything.

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

Wow, that is a hot guitar. It's great to see discussion about the Pearly Gates for Strat - that's still a bit of a mystery to me.

How does the middle position sound? I ask because for many of us the Pearly Gates neck and bridge are familiar sounds... but we've never had a Pearly Gates *middle* pickup before.

Also, are you running a 250K or 500K volume pot with that set?

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

im sure the custom shop pearly gates for strat dont sound exactly like the normal production full size bucker pearlys

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

I also wonder how that PG bridge sounds. I had a Lonestar setup with the PG+ full HB bridge, and I was underwhelmed. I always wondered if a regular PG would have been more to my liking, but then I was told the PG+ was actually hotter, and I sure didn't want anything any less hot.

Re: Give Thanks to those Pearly Gates

i dont really care for the pg+ but im a big pg fan. the alnico II magnet makes a big difference to me

I used 250K pots for volume and the two tone pots. I followed one of the three schematics I have and I am not satisfied with the switching that is going on. The tone pots are not registering right but the pickups have brought so much to the fingers that I am re writing songs with a heavier metal sound than i have ever been able to use before. As far as the bridge pickup and its' use - all the treble I need is there whenever I want it - that is why it is going to be awhile before I endeavor to see why the tone controls are not working right - besides I have two other guitars that need electronic work that I am in to but for now I have sound that I've never had before!
