I don't exactly have a certain Ibanez in my hands but rather a little custom project I am working on right now. I have a basswood body from an RG1570 and a Wizard II neck with shark tooth inlays I think from an RG2550E. Either way, its an RG.
I want this guitar to be my shred/instrumental axe more tha anything else. I am looking for a modern tone that is heavy and thick but doesn't lack any definition under high gain what so ever. I want the bridge to be vocal for lead work and for the neck to have a good sustaining tone.
I dont play any down tuned music so I don't need a pup geared towards thrash or doom metal or anything of that degree.
It's an HSH configuration... what would you guys put in it?
Remember, I want a thick and heavy tone from the bridge especially. I'd like for the neck to produce decent cleans but to do better with distortion more than anything else. Not looking for a metal type bridge or neck tone, just modern, fusionesque instrumental type stuff.
Some ideas I have:
DMZ Norton B DMZ Air Norton neck (dont know their single coils too well).
DMZ Evolution and DMZ Air Norton or PAF Pro neck
Screamin Deamon b and Jazz b neck
JB b cool rails middle and Jazz b
Duncan Distortion b Cool Rails middle and Jazz b neck
I like a little mid hump in the bridge position more than a scooped tone, I feel it adds for longer sustain.
Suggestions?
