Giving the Demon one more try

I'm gonna give my Screamin' Demon one more try. I've had it in my Jackson, and I've had it in my LP, and I never really liked it much in either place. I liked to tone, but it wasn't powerful enough for my likes - raging pinch harmonics, etc. However, I've got tons of good advice from this place, and I've heard so many great things about that pup, that I'm gonna give it another shot, and see how it sounds with my new amp setting methodology (i.e. less gain, more mids w/ tubscreamer in front).

I'm gonna swap out the Distortion it in my Floyd equipped MIJ Jackson Dinky. Only problem is that the Demon is standard spaced (the dude who sold it to me didn't know any better all those years ago, and neither did I).

Does anyone think there will be a noticeable loss using the standard spaced w/ Floyd setup? Or is there any way to get around it?

I think I'll record the axe with the Distortion in it first, before I swap out for the Demon, and then record it again.

Any song requests? :)

Re: Giving the Demon one more try

I've got standard spaced Distortions in my guitars with Floyds as well as a TB-6 in another one. There is absolutely no noticeable difference.

Yep Matt I do have one request - Maiden's Remember Tomorrow!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's off of Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden? Can you believe I do not have that CD? I had the **Album** (you know, those big black disc things?) back in the day, but I never did get around to replacing that particular release with a CD. I guess I now have a reason :D I've got almost everything back to Killers. I'm missing a few of the non-****inson CD's, but I'm not feeling a huge loss there.

I'll see what I can do. I've got no drums, so it'll sound cheese with a standard 4/4 backbeat off of my Jamstation, but I might give it a shot since we're just doing tone comparison.

Hi Matt, I would appreciate if you could record some Dokken/Lynch tunes/riffs with both those pups, so I can see how they differ and wich one I like better. I'm contemplating on what to put in my soon to be custom guitar. It's a toss between the JB, Distortion and Demon.

I was thinking along those lines as well. I'll leave out the solos since I don't have that kind of range (yet), or maybe make up something of my own. Maybe Ben can fill 'em in.

Another vote for Lynch/Dokken. I've got the Demon in the neck of my Gibson, but I'm thinking about replacing it with a DDn or some DiMarzio (Paf Pro or Air Norton)

Can't wait to hear the clips :cool3:

Re: Giving the Demon one more try

Take the flatheads out of another pickup and put them in. This will take the shrillness out of the pickup. It rounds out the top end. It will also give the mids a bit of a boost and enhance the snarl. It will still retain that twang when clean, just with out the icepick shrillness form the high E and B strings. do it and spread the word, this pickup can be so much better than what it is stock. Kind of stange that we are modding our stock guitars wiht new pickups, and then modding the pickups on top of that. Some people are never satisfied.

Is it really as simple as un-screwing the Hex screws and screwing some flat head screws in instead? The pickup doesn't fall to bits of anything? Can this be done with the pickup still in the guitar?

Sorry for the hijack of the thread, but I'd love to hear more info about this mod :)

Like ie was said...use some flat head screws fro another pickup, but you...with the pup still in the guitar remove the allen head screws and simply replace them with flathear screws from another pickup.

Hehe, I'd love to, Matt! :D

As for everyone's comments about the pup being too 'bright', I disagree. It's perfect if you wanna get that Lynch style tone. If not, then use something else.
