Giving the Squire a Boost

As you can tell i have a squire strat, i like it better then a few other guitars i have tried out. Anyhow, i'm looking to get more out of it. I like playing Metal mostly but like to sit down and pick the blues. I know i'm limited not haveing humbuckers, but the sounds me looking to go after is something "crunchy" Like in the Prong - Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck, Something like down when they are crunchy and blues. I was thinking hot rails in the bridge, but dont know what to do with the other two. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Randy

PS. I have a Line 6 - Spider amp, if that helps any.

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

Well, the Hot Rails is a good start. For the neck, I like the Cool Rails and in the middle, I like the Vintage Rails. This set up will cover classic rock, blues, funk, metal, and hard rock without any problems.

BTW, Welcome to the Forum!

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

I second that setup. BUT, if you're ever looking for another route, I have a JB jr in my Squier strat and I love it for rock and metal. I might have to buy a lil 59 for the neck and a duckbucker for the middle. Just another option...

Peace.

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

The Hot Rails is a beast; no good clean tones out of that. It'll do metal, but if you're looking for something a bit tamer, the JB Jr. is good. Cool Rails in the neck sounds good, and I've heard good things about the Vintage Rails (never tried it though). But anything to spice up a Squier.

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

hey have you checked under your pickguard to make sure u ddont have room for humbuckers? never checked mine and i just got a single coil pickup and went to install it and found out i got room for 2 humbuckers and a single coil.

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

I might look into that, I think i want to keep the strat look to it tho with the single coils. Its good to have plenty of options tho.

I have

HR/CR/HR

It might be interesting to try a VR, though.

I also installed 500k push/pull pots so I could split the coils.

.

That's a loaded gun then.

I've got a HR in my Squier too, and it sure is an upgrade.
But the HR is very bassy and I got to EQ some high mids into it, else it will sound too dark for me.
But: the HR is a great monster, who will do metal with ease.

Re: Giving the Squire a Boost

I use a set of Duncan Antiquity Surfers in my '88 MIJ Squire Strat. Sounds as good as most custom shop instruments. Lew
