Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

I have a 4x12" that I am very happy with.

Hmm, I am just so confused, the guitar player uses a ENGL FireBall today, and it doesent sound nearly as preampy or how should I say it, stompbox like as my distortion sound does.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

The new Marshall's comming out may be the ticket for you also. The Vintage Modern or the new 4 channel beast. I also have a feeling Marshall isn't done with the release of new amp models. I believe there will be a 2 or 3 channel model soon.

FWIW, the 2205/2210 JCM 800's have a bunch of Marshall gain. The bonus is they are 2 channels. No, stock the cleans aren't great, but the gain is superb. It's diode clipping, which a lot of people bag on...but then they take their pure tube amp and clip it with a tubescreamer...so who's the hypocrite?

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

I'm suprised you can't get a good '80's tone out of your Screamer. As I've said in an earlier post, I can nail most of the '80's tones on Channel 3 (Soft Lead) alone. As Jeff has already said, the new Marshall JVM may be just what your after.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

1st choice - GET A SPLAWN!!! ...2nd choice - buy a used marshall JCM800!!! ...3rd choice - repeat 1st or 2nd choice,as needed...............

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

I know thats a studio sound, but it should be doable to get close to it? Especially the Pretty Maids sound?

I dont mind using a attenuator, but just so you know, I use my ENGL in the bedroom with the MV on 6.5 through a 4x12 :D

God Bless your folks:27:

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

My 6505+ is what I got when looking for pretty much the same tone. I guess some people just have a different approach for the same sound.

To me, it's like a heavier marshall with more gain and a soldano like lead tone.

I'd guess they're using modded JCM800s though.

Hmm, I can get something usable out of it, the problem is that its like its waay to non-natural. How should I put it, kinda like a SS amp, it doesent really sound natural because I use the PreaAmps distortion, I run my EQ with mids boosted, and presence at 10, but hows your EQ and gain settings for the sound like in the clips?

Rid--> Not that much anymore, but even with it at 6 its still not the perfect sound.

As far as I know they were using Kramer with JBs -> JCM800.

I am going to a concert with the guitarplayer on the 22nd December, i I can get backstage I could ask him. But I do think that it was stock 800s.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Dude, trust me, AOR Pro-Tube 50 watter will do 90% of what JCM800 can do and a lot more that it could not(it does an extra stage of gain you know, and was developed as answear to modded 800s) and it would not cost more than 550$ worst case scenario.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

In the Laney dept, i say the GH50 or 100, the AOR series
Marshall, the 800 obviously, or maybe try the new JVM
Splawn, yes yes yes, what needs to be said?
I think a Hiwatt could work too, but im not familiar with them aside from one of Rid's clips.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Will somebody please sell this guy a 2203 or 2204 like he should have bought in the first place? :laugh2::beerchug:

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Engl Fireball is the right choice !If you don't need all the channels ,bells and whistels ,Fireball!!!!The best Engl tone ,and it is one of the cheapest ones!

Yeah, I so regret not buying the '79 2203 in the first place.

How about those Vintage Moderns?

ENGL Fireball, well again I am afraid that it would be too fizzy so to say.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

All of those are Germany only.

Hmm, I am gonna try first and throw in the Custom 5 or Fender JB copy into the Charvel, but which one of them is the most open?

And then if Rocker35, could send some gain/EQ suggestions, well see from there I guess.
Btw. DAMN that 2204 is cheap.
