Anyone played the GJ2 guitars? What was it like? Im curious if the neck feel is like the Charvels? What are the Habanero pickups like? Any other details??

Re: GJ2 guitars?

They would be the most incredible guitars. They would be in a league of their own compared to any import charvel in my opinion.

Re: GJ2 guitars?

Raising an old thread, cause I did a search for the Habanero pickups...

I just received my GJ2 Glendora, it's a special edition from Wichita Guitar Works, it was either made using older specs by request, or it was made back when GJ was making them all like this. Hardware is different on the newer model, this has non locking Gotoh tuners, and I believe a Gotoh 510 tremolo, also has a Floyd style string retainer thingie on the headstock, the new version of this model has Hipshot staggered locking tuners, and a Hipshot tremolo. Mine also has the infinity inlays, not dots. I haven't owned a CS Charvel, but have owned 2 USA Production Model's, and honestly, the neck on the GJ2 I have has the same contour, I'd say dead on, the radius is slightly different, 10"-14" vs. the Charvel's 12"-16". The frets are both 6100 size, but GJ keeps more meat on them when crowning, so they feel bigger than the Charvel's 6100, and they are stainless. The neck on mine feels like it's just seeled, not oiled, I may consider applying gunstock oil to it, personal preference. I love the way it plays.

I like the Habanero neck pickup a lot, the bridge pickup I'm having a little trouble warming up to, I think they are Habanero Classic's. They say it's a medium output pickup, which is about right, 8.5K (which really means nothing), I think it sounds like an underpowered Duncan Custom or Custom Custom, don't know what magnets are used probably A2 or A5.

That is one sweet guitar although the string retainer bar is indeed unusual for a non-locking trem, still looks awesome as all heck!

Re: GJ2 guitars?

I got it at a bargain. Wichita Guitar Works has 2 more for sale on eBay, $995... They went out of business, so they have to blowout their inventory I guess. I offered them $850, and they took it without a counter offer, I should have offered $750 lol. The other 2 are SSH, 1 is gold and the other is the same color as mine. I was thinking of getting the gold one, but got a PRS on hold instead (paypal sucks). I think GJ also paints half the headstock the same color as the body now, instead of leaving it all bare, it does look better like that.

And I just remembered, I need to bring home a pencil from work, the nut needs a little lubing... When I got it the strings were black, they haven't really maintained them, but with a string change and setup it plays great.
