Re: GJ2 guitars?
Raising an old thread, cause I did a search for the Habanero pickups...
I just received my GJ2 Glendora, it's a special edition from Wichita Guitar Works, it was either made using older specs by request, or it was made back when GJ was making them all like this. Hardware is different on the newer model, this has non locking Gotoh tuners, and I believe a Gotoh 510 tremolo, also has a Floyd style string retainer thingie on the headstock, the new version of this model has Hipshot staggered locking tuners, and a Hipshot tremolo. Mine also has the infinity inlays, not dots. I haven't owned a CS Charvel, but have owned 2 USA Production Model's, and honestly, the neck on the GJ2 I have has the same contour, I'd say dead on, the radius is slightly different, 10"-14" vs. the Charvel's 12"-16". The frets are both 6100 size, but GJ keeps more meat on them when crowning, so they feel bigger than the Charvel's 6100, and they are stainless. The neck on mine feels like it's just seeled, not oiled, I may consider applying gunstock oil to it, personal preference. I love the way it plays.
I like the Habanero neck pickup a lot, the bridge pickup I'm having a little trouble warming up to, I think they are Habanero Classic's. They say it's a medium output pickup, which is about right, 8.5K (which really means nothing), I think it sounds like an underpowered Duncan Custom or Custom Custom, don't know what magnets are used probably A2 or A5.
