Glue For Securing Nut

I was just changing strings on my acoustic and the nut has come loose.

What glue should I use to secure it back in place?

Cheers

Re: Glue For Securing Nut

Use a dab of regular wood glue. Anything stronger will damage the guitar if you have to replace the nut. This is how it was down from the factory, and why the nut fell out now.

wood glue is best... super glue works but what it is great for is glueing back damaged pieces of a nut... on some junky guitars i've used superglue in low nut slots to raise them up a bit... i know a tech that uses some baking powder and super glue for quick repairs to nut material on cheap axes...

I've gone the wood glue route and its worked a treat

Cheers for the advice guys.

Re: Glue For Securing Nut

I like White Elmers glue for this task but, wood glue or a small dab or 2 of super glue is fine.

Re: Glue For Securing Nut

Me, I use wood glue. To me, it seems easier to remove. I would recommend a low-strength glue for the job, since the strings hold it down once it's in place. I think my Strat doesn't even have glue on the string nut right now.

Still, FWIW, the guy at the music store locally says use super glue. I think acoustic guitar strings are higher in tension than electric guitar strings, so maybe super glue. Still, I wouldn't want to use something that strong for fear of breaking something if I should ever want to change the string nut.

Super glue works fine in that when you need to tap off the nut in the future, is really does not put up much of a resistance if used sparingly.
