GNX3 presets sound tinny.....Help!!

Re: GNX3 presets sound tinny.....Help!!

Digitech presets, to me, have always sounded tinny. You have to adjust them for YOUR setup.

Whenever you use them with amp modeling, you have to go into an amps effects return. If you have amp modeling on and go into the front of an amp, it is going to be tin city.

That's why I often hate the way things are set up at music stores, because everyone just uses modeling preamps or preamps in a can like the Tech 21 Character series right into an amp's input. They are meant to be preamps and should therefore go into a power amp.

I am sure that you know the difference, Hellion, just wanted to get it out there.

Well, that's true, and it's not, really. Echoes and reverbs have always sounded better to me run through the effects loop of an amp, while distortion and chorus and pretty much everything else sound better to me run though the front of the amp. So it's always been a "lesser of the two evils" thing for me. And because I can't really tell that much difference in echoes and reverbs in front of the amp or in the loop, and I can tell a BIG difference between the other effects in same, I usually go through the front of the amp. If I'm treading on convention, then I apologize, but in my defense, I've been playing through Digitech equipment for the last 25 years, so I'm maybe giving myself a bit of leeway.

It seems to me that we're talking about presets. Everyone's tone is different, and your tone is really in your head and your hands (to quote Brent Mason). Presets are just that: Presets. They require a bit of messing with to make them do what you want.

Hey, no problem.

I am talking about whether one uses the RP gear as a preamp or not . If the amp models are on, then I would skip my own preamp and run it into the power amp in/fx return. Using an amplifier's preamp and a "modeler" preamp together often sounds tinny.

If using a multi-fx as a true effects processor without amp modeling, then distortions, compressors, sound better before and delays, modulations, reverbs sound better after.

I was actually looking into getting the RP355 or RP500, anyone have opinions on either pedal. Are the online patches good? And can a patch for the RP500 be used on the RP355 and vise versa, cause there seems to be alot more patches for the RP500 then the Rp355.
As for the GNX3, Digitech said its probably an internal problem if the factory reset didnt fix it so i'm gonna see if its fixable and if not im getting a new pedal!

I have the 355 now and I can tell you it sounds way better than the GNX. It doesnt have as many options like connections but I never used them anyway. I only use it through my desktop monitors for practice and it sounds great for that. I definitely prefer my amps for real jamming though but for home practice this is great. I like it better than the 500 and 1000 for me because the buttons are easy and quiet with stocking feet and it has a few options they dont like the amp a/b switching option, mp3 input and looper.
