Godin guitars

Being in Canada there is lots of Godin guitars around the local shops. I have been finding that they are made extremely well, out of better tone woods, better electronics, and better hardware then most of the other guitars in the cheaper range. The under $1000 Canadian dollar range they almost beat everything going..... but they have a funky shape that some people do not find that great. I love the fact that they are mostly Canadian made and compete with the overseas imports! The Godin Solidac i own is great!!!! The peizo Trem bridge and the Mahogany neck, nice quilted maple top, locking tuners..... The Acoustic sounds that bridge makes is great i never take a real acoustic to shows anymore....

Anyone else own any Godins? The LGX's have some custom Duncans in them and i oneday want one of them.

PS-the LG model with Ducan p90's looks like it will be my next guitar

Well I am a very proud godin owner, although i am seriously gassing for a nice strat, i own a Black Godin LG Signature, i know there is a couple of other guys using godins on here.

I might post pics here in a bit.

I have been finding that the Godins really do offer a lot more for the money. I love their finnishes! They are finnished perfect! I wanted a LGXT oneday but they are costly.... So i bought the Solidac instead as it was $1000can cheaper! The Solidac has quickly become my main guitar! I bought mine in 2002 when the Solidac still had a Creme Pickguard on it... I wish i had the current non-pickguard version so they would not hide the great maple top under the plastic! I also like the Solidacs Piezo preamp as it is just a volume knob... The more expensive Godins having an EQ sounds like it would get in the way. Simple is best for me.... I use the Godin for about half of everything i do and a Strat or Jackson for the other stuff.. The Jacksons come in hand y for VH tunes where you need a Floyd!

PS-Another thing i love Godin did to the Solidac is the trem cavity... They use a thick black foam that is glued onto either side of teh Tremblock.... When the bridge is floating there is no flutter from hitting the strings hard.. The foam squeezes against the wood when you dive with the bar but holds the trem stable enough to stop the flutter..... I really liked that!

I've owned two nylon strings and the Multiac Jazz. The Jazz weighed 5000 lbs and ha d a huge baseball bat neck, so it soon found itself looking for a home. It was a beautiful instrument and sounded great, though.

My first nylon, with the RMC MIDI pickup, sounded aweful when amplified. I think the metal saddle pieces exaggerate the plinky high-end of a nylon string. I guess it is intentional because it is easier to sample the high harmonics for the MIDI tracking.

I sold that one and got a Duet with the equivalent of the Baggs iMix onboard. It is a very nice guitar. Sounds good and is a great player.

Overall I think they make great stuff, though they favor thicker necks than I generally like.

I've got a dark gold top Godin LGp90 that I think is the finest $350 (US) I've ever played. Fantastick gutiar, glad I own it. I might swap the ceramic duncan p90s out of it and put in some A2's, just a personal preference. Guitar has serious balls the way it is now. Neck is perfect, the non-finished wood neck back almost feels as good as the IRW neck I had on my former-PRS.



Oh yeah, the gigbag that came with it was freaking unbelievable quality, even had a neck pad with a velcro strap to keep the neck in place.

Sounds like Scott and I have the same axe! Mine is the 24 fret version.
a great guitar to say the least, mine is needing a truss rod adjustment I think, this crazy AR humidity, coupled with the fact that the fingerboard, shoot I guess the whole guitar was dry. I've kept a humidifier in the case for the last 5-6 mos and think the extra humidity caught up with it.

There was a dealer in Wisconsin, Cream City or somethign like that that was selling them on ebay under a pseudonym. I didn't see the color I wanted off ebay, so I sent them an email to get their phone number, called the guy and bought over the phone. I'll go try to find the site for you.

I have played the Godin LGXT in stores... its AWESOME! the neck is PERFECT, the craftsmanship is impeccable, the tone is to die for, and it looks really cool. maybe i'd add one into my collection soon. the one in Trans. Blue looks very beautiful.

Yup that's the one i want! I'm a huge Who Fan as you can tell and that LG guitar with P90's is a good guitar to get closer to the live At Leeds tone on a budget!!!! I have a few spare Godin necks that i got from a local store when they moved.... They had to get rid of stuff or move it. I have a spare LG 24 fret neck and a spare LGX 22 fret neck..... Once i get an LG i'll have back ups for both the LG and my Solidac.....

Believe it or not, my first Godin was a dud. They had put a 22 fret neck on a 24 fret body. It was messed up. The 12th fret harmonic would only sound between the 12th and 13th frets, nearer the 13th. It was weird that it got through QC on that one. The measurement from the nut to the 12th was perfect for a 24.75 scale guitar. But the measureent from the 12th to the bridge was too long. Wouldn't intonate for crap.

They were great about it, got me a new one in a heartbeat, paid all shipping costs, handled it professionally. I even got an email from Godin about it.

they sound like a good choice for a p-90 guitar...my shop doesn't have any of the lg p90's yet...but i'll play one as soon as they get one!

I was wondering if their necks were interchangable for the different scales...... Guess not. The Solidac i have is a 25 1/2 scale and it sounds great, so my extra LGX neck may fit that guitar! I have picked up other Godin Solidacs and they do not have the same feel and sustain this one has. But the LG neck i have is a brand new and has never been installed on a guitar..... no screw holes in the back. I may make a body for it.. but i should keep it aside for a spare when i get the LG guitar.
