Goin' Shoppin!

Hi there,
Selling out my Fender Princeton Chorus. I want a tube amp that'll perform fine in a simple jam sesh (w/ drums, non-gig) volume-wise. My budget is $400. I don't want any effects at all, and only have use for a clean channel. Using a fender american strat. Looking for clean and bright tones, overall.

Re: Goin' Shoppin!

Do you prefer new or used? Would you consider eBay or are you going to a shop?

Big differences as far as price. Really I've had good luck with anything Fender tube for cleans, Also the Peavy classic series amps but I've never played with a band with one so i don't know how well they hold up, although a friend uses a classic 50 head and its perfect at about half volume. But a half stack at the price range is a little hard to do.

Re: Goin' Shoppin!

that's a tough one

depends a lot on the drummer, too

if he's not a loud a-hole drummer a hot rod deluxe would probably be fine

if he is you should probably look into a deville or a twin

all used, of course

Re: Goin' Shoppin!

I'm impartial to used or not, so long as it doesn't look like something out of a Poe short story. Yeah, combos preferably. Thanks for the help so far!

Does anyone have experience with the new Crate tube amps? They come in at about 18W or so. How loud is that? My Fender Princeton Chorus is nearly always at >1, so I can't be a good judge of volume at this point. Do I just have to go test out an amp at a guitar shop?
