Going back to your original ways? (amps, effects, guitars)

Re: Going back to your original ways? (amps, effects, guitars)

I have two pedals....a Boss flanger that was my brothers and a Vox wah. The flanger has never been used cause it sounds like dookie and i plugged the Vox in just to make sure it works and it has sat there ever since. Strictly guitar-wire-amp since then. I don't even use the vibrato or reverb on my amps that much.

Re: Going back to your original ways? (amps, effects, guitars)

I've always been a guitar to amp kind of guy. 99% of my sound is the guitar to the amp.

"Back in the day" I used Les Pauls, I had the same amp I'm using now- the 50w Marshall and 4x12, I had a Sabine tuner, and a distortion- usually an old Big Muff, which I used as a boost or extra gain.

I still use Les Pauls, still have the same amp- I've changed tuners- the TU-2 is leagues better than the Sabine ST-1000. I've also changed distortion units- although I've always been changing around what I've liked- Maestro Fuzz Tone, Little Muff, Big Muff, DS-1, SD-1, TS-9, TS-10, TS-9DX... Now I'm pretty set on the Barber Direct Drive. I only use it as a boost. I've added a chorus- an old Ibanez CS-9- I rarely use it- it's for "shimmer." I also have a few delays, which get used less than the chorus. An old Boss DM-2 and my favorite old Washburn analog unit...

When I gig, it's the rig, the TU-2, the Barber and the CS-9.

I think the main difference is in the type of music you wanna do. For some music you don't need a $50,000 rack setup, but some guys do. And if you are not the only guitar player in the band, competing with another guitar, a bass, drums, and vocals, maybe keyboards, you need to have a clear sound that cuts through and is easy to repeat night after night.

I also like the fact that all I need to do a gig is my guitar (with cable in the case) and amp. I can get all the necessary tones out of those two things, and if I forget my pedals or they break, I am still able to do the gig. Many people have such complicated rigs that if something breaks or they forget one simple things, they're screwed.
