Going to try out a JB in the neck position...any thoughts?

Re: Going to try out a JB in the neck position...any thoughts?

I’ve got a Super Strat, where Ive put a JB SH-4 on the neck, and it works great.

It has another black JB TB-4 on the bridge, an when I decided to swap the pickguard for a HSH more in Dave Murray style, it seem kinda obvious to put in the black JB I had lying around taken off another guitar, than buy another pickup. Otherwise, I would probably buy a black 59, like I have on another guitar (JB/59).

just jammed a new JB in the bridge and an old JB in the bridge of my Ibanez RGA42MFMT. the bridge sounds great and i haven’t tested since the neck insert (had stuff to run to) bit will post experience.

May people have made this work, and I think there were a few signature models with a JB in the neck. It just depends on what you dig out of a neck pickup.

just spent a hour playing it in the Ibanez RGA42FMFMT it sounds kind of thin and not JB like at all, its not bad - needs a touch more bass but it may be this guitar. kind of has a single coil honk tone to it to me

a jb in the neck sounds thin? that is not my experience at all but who knows. i had a jb in the neck of a jackson rhoads and it kicked ass for fat solos

I am always a fan of a JB or a SuperD in the neck. It's a bold, manly statement. A lot of people who do this IMO, are doing it for the lead tones, not rhythm. If you want searing, scorching, fluid, fast response solos on the neck, get a pickup made for that, and perhaps expect some rhythm compromise, if you use the neck for that.

Might take longer to adjust the bass/treble pickup height, and specific poles, etc, but It can be done.

I put a JB in the neck position of an old guitar thiking it would pair well with the Black Winter it had in the bridge.

It didn't. It was hot, but it still struggled to keep up with the 'Winter. But the worst part was it was mud city. Smooth alright, but at the expense of any high-end clarity.

Would not recommend.

I could possibly see using a JB in the neck slot of a really bright guitar if it had something similar in the bridge position, like a Custom or X2N. And I would probably run it in parallel at that.
