gonna refinish my les paul studio

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

Got it masked off ready for stain...cross out fingers and hope it comes out good

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

Yes it did, I use to use Dunlop strap locks and one of them failed and the guitar went down, I was pissed....so I switched to Schaller locks after that

Grolsch make the best straplocks on the market & come with a great free gift too

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

Got the staining done, let it dry then worked on the faux binding, I kept the back natural, I like that look. Just sprayed a coat of nitro sanding lacquer

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

That looks a million miles better! Great job staining!
I did find that the Blue tape let the stain bleed thru the edges, unless I burnished it so much it was hard to remove later. Automotive Pinstripe Tape worked really well, though. Plus that comes in a bunch of different widths, so I didn't have to cut it to width.
BUt yeah, you did a really great job on that.

It did bleed through the the blue tape In Some areas, but nothing I couldn't sand off

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

Well I think I decided I want to finish this in a satin finish, I like the way the gibson faded series look....

Re: gonna refinish my les paul studio

How did you do the darker shade?

I applied the stain my hand and used 3 different colors brown, amber and yellow. It was just a lot of lightly working light brown and amber around the edge and a little more yellow in the middle, then sand and go over again till I had what looked good
