Good and bad of blocking a trem

So I've been advised to block the trem on my OLP Axis. What would I gain from doing this exactly? I like having a guitar with a trem and it does stay in tune well and I even have locking tuners. What would blocking it gain for me?

It's the non-locking trem one? Then just put all the springs on it and make sure its flush with the body. I don't think blocking it would help all that much. I would only block a floating floyd rose personally.

That's wha tI was thinking, wouldn't tightening it to the body and not using it do the same anyways? Is there really a need though?? It stays in tune with heavy use.

Yeah, if it stays in tune and you actually use it, don't block it. If you block a floating trem, obviously you lose the ability to use it. However, since you are adding a piece of wood between the bridge and the rest of the body, you improve your resonance and get more girth to your tone.

Well, most people block a floater just so the can't pull up on it. You can still use it to divebomb and stuff.

I don't see a need to block a floyd unless you put a D-tuna on it. Pulling up is one of the reasons they made it to float.

I wouldn't block any of them unless I was having a hard time keeping it in tune.

Yep, don't block it unless it wont stay in tune. That's a good general rule to follow.

well I shure aint blocking it! Locking tuners need to be put to good use dang it! And TO is right, can't be metal and not have some divebomb squeals! rock on TO. He knows best.

a quick question since it's on the topic-if you got 5 springs floating on a vintage trem, is the 5 spring force great enough to make double stops and tuning easier?

What are the positive aspects of a floating trem? Does the thinner tone emphasize different frequencies to produce a positive result, like how a strat sounds great eventhough it's designed to sound thin-single coils bolted to plastic, floating trem....

Sometimes punchy isn't better
