Good Cheap Distortion with Mid Scoop

Every distortion pedal that I have that I like boost mids. What are some good distortion pedals that cut mids? Not a DS-1 please, I have 3.

A big muff is super duper mid scooped . . . the tone control changes the specific frequency being cut.

Look for any distortion pedal with active EQ, parametric mid controls. Even better if you find something advertised as a flat EQ. Something like the Forza doesn't boost mids at all.
Thing is, these types of pedals won't be 'cheap'.

Most distortions try to emphasize "tubelike" qualities, one of which is a boosted midrange.

Its not exactly what you're looking for, but the Seafoam Trident can definitely cover it. Plus it can distort specific frequencies while leaving others untouched.

How "cheap" is cheap? $$$

Quick Google search for scooped drive pedals reveals multiple suggestions for:
  • MXR Super Bad@ss Distortion
  • Boss HM-2
  • MXR Fullbore
  • Hardwire TL-2
At the higher end of the truly "cheap" pedal price range, look at the Joyo "Dark Flame" (Revv G4 knock-off) or "Uzi" from their R-series.

For bottom-of-the-barrel budget pricing, you have the Behringer UM300 (Boss Metal Zone clone) and OD300 (Boss Overdrive/Distortion clone) for around $25 each.
...or just get a decent EQ pedal and turn any drive pedal into a mid-scooped monster! :headbang:

That looks extremely useful AND it could very likely survive a plane crash with maybe "light cosmetic wear" :cool2:

Rocktron makes some really underrated and overlooked great-sounding gear.

Yup, and yup. Ironically, someone else in the forum didn't like it, and gave it to me when I bought something else from them. Many moons ago. Can't remember who. I love it.

DOD Boneshaker is another decent option. It has 3 bands of EQ - all sweepable.
Never got popular so probably can be had on the cheap; I got mine on blowout for $30 new.
It's anything but amplike. But the EQ is amazingly flexible.

They don’t even make those big pedals anymore. I liked the Zombie I had (it was amazing in front of a Twin Reverb) and the Silver Dragon I tried, sounded nice even if the tube inside wasn’t doing very much if at all.

I remember they used to make a hybrid head nobody liked but then released another, 4 channel, Egnater designed, all tube head of the same name that sadly went under the radar because they don’t make them anymore either.

Now they make just a few preamps, one for all kinds of Marshall sounds and another for Fender and I assume Mesa sounds which I’ve seen nobody stock, review or talk about.

A used Zombie is pretty flat/scooped with the Stare knob all the way down, I think the Metal Planet has parametric EQ, never tried that one. They take up some space but they’re cool and the all metal chassis is pretty reassuring.
