Good Combo for Metal/Rock/Classic Rock

I'm at a point where I'm realizing that my half stack with huge power amp etc. is just WAY too much for me. Even if I start jamming with a band and/or playing gigs, I'm not going to want to haul around all this gear.

So, can anyone recommend me a good combo amp (thinking 50 watter is enough) for Metal/Rock/Classic rock type stuff? I also play newer Metal like Lamb of God etc. I would like it to do cleans well too. If I sell my power amp and cabinet, I can probably afford something in the range of $1k or even a bit higher. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

Ive got a marshall DSL 401 combo which I love, its really versatile and loud as anything. i do run it through a 4x12 though for a bit of extra punch, but im not really a combo fan.

I'm in the same boat you are man, check out my "Alright guys, name some amps" thread. There's a vast array of recommendations haha.

For a grand? I'd probably go with a used rect-o-verb 2x12 combo.

A head and quad are easier to carry around than u think.

A combo is less space so it will fit in the boot of most cars, but the weight and shape of most 2 x 12 combo's makes em' very awkward to lift and carry.

I find taking the back seat out of my car lets me fit the quad.

Another option is get a 2x12 cab
