Good Combo?

1000 Watts

I'm calling my dad tomorrow morning so he can order me some Seymour Duncan's off of Musiciansfriend.com... I'm gonna get Duncan Distortions in the bridge, and '59's in the Neck.. What do you think? Good combo?

Re: Good Combo?

Very nice combo. Got this in one of my PS2000's (mahogony body/maple cap), sounds versatile and awesome!

Re: Good Combo?

I don't know what guitar you have, or style of music, but I'd recommend the Custom/59n. The tone is a little better IMO.

Re: Good Combo?

I really like the '59N and have to give the custom and C5 a shot. I love the CC though.

Re: Good Combo?

Thanks for the first comment, it helps me out a lot. :) Seriously.

And I'm putting it in my crappy, Indonesian made, Ibanez RG321MH....

Hey...Nothing wrong with that!!! As long as its put together well and the frets are good!!!! :)

Re: Good Combo?

Frets are pretty good.. the Pick-ups now suck..they're falling out and everything... i think the stock screw was too small... But i can't wait to order my Duncan's!! I'm pumped about it! :)

Re: Good Combo?

I think my guitar's crap, though..It's mahogony, and yet it feels like it weighs 1.5 lbs.... It's wierd.. And I think it's too light...oh well.. hopefully the pik-ups will hep me take my mind off of it.. :)

Re: Good Combo?

Quick Question: Will it sound REALLY crappy with those pick-ups if I need to plug in my headphones into my amplifier? Also, I'm using a 10-Watt Ibanez Combo Amp. Would these pick-ups work better with a higher wattage? Because I can't afford a new amp, and I want something that sounds good with my Amp as well.... Also, Every now and then, I'll use a Boss DS-1 Super Distortion pedal.. It's kinda old, but still works.. It's kind of a Hand-Me-Down from my Step-Dad who's 45..... A little help on this one please. Thanks! :)

P.S. I think he (My step-dad) said he baught it about 10-15 years ago.... (At least i was alive when he baught them!! :) )

Re: Good Combo?

quite honestly, I don't think it will help that much with that amp...but when you move up - look out! In fact, a new amp might be a more important tool for better sound. DS-1 is a cool pedal all around. But 59/Distortion is a great setup. I love my Distortion!!!!

Re: Good Combo?

Thank you. :)

But yeah..I'm not incredibly rich... I can't really afford a new amp at all. It's kind of depressing...oh, well... But thanks for the input. :)

Re: Good Combo?

Hey man - you are 17. Ya gotta start somewhere. I'm gonna say the #1 tone generator above all else is the amp. Then the guitar, followed by the pups. A great amp with a mediocre guitar will sound good. An awesome guitar & killer pups through a junk amp will still be junk. Save up for a while. You can get some really good amps for ~ 300. Those pups will be over 100. That's a third of the way there. And the Ibanez is a perfectlky decent platform for a good set of pups!

Re: Good Combo?

Pups together: $140 (Free shipping - no tax)

And I want to save up..but I also need to save up for a camera... I'm a big photographer, as well... And a decent camera will run me roughly $300 as well..haha. :) Thanks, though.

Re: Good Combo?

I cannot argue with a 59n, but I can say I like the DD bridge with a Screamin Demon in the neck. The SD sounds like a brighter, higher output 59 with tighter low end, and it matches the DD bridge well IMO. Different than the DD neck, but it's been a while since I heard the DD neck.
