Good compressors?

Just doing some reading up on compressors, and was wondering which ones you guys have worked with that you liked, or ones you wish you'd never messed with. So far the Keeley compressor looks killer, but has a pretty high asking price. Any info on the Boss or MXR models?

Re: Good compressors?

I was afraid of that ;). Thanks for the input, I might have to save up and get it sometime next year.

Re: Good compressors?

IMHO the Guyatone ST-2 sustainer / compressor is one of the best compressors you can get for the price ($65-70 new / $50.00 used)

Quiet and more natural sounding than an MXR Dyna-Comp.

The only down-side to Guyatone micro pedals is the funky bottom / battery cover. The up-side is it doesn't take up much space on your pedal-board.

If you have the $$ a Black Box 'Oxygen' is hard to beat for a stompbox compressor.

Re: Good compressors?

It's pretty had t beat an MXR Dyna-Comp for guitar...David Gilmoure can have whatever he wants...and he uses reissur MXR Dyna-Comps...3 of them!!!

Re: Good compressors?

I don't play without the Dynacomp. Great pedal. Great price. One of the best equipment investments I've made.

Re: Good compressors?

Dynacomps have always come under favorable reviews. I personally like DOD & Digitech compressors, but that may be a matter of personal taste. I like hearing a compressor work (yea, I know that's not really a normal thing).

Re: Good compressors?

MXR Dynacomps sell for $60 new, which looks good to me. They seem to get a lot of praise, I'll have to go check some pedals out this weekend...

Re: Good compressors?

I've used the BOSS pedal and MXR Dyna Comp and they were both pretty good. I mostly use a stereo dbx rack mount unit though.
