Good first all tube combo amp

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

yeah I actually just played a Traynor 40 today at music store very nice

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

oh really? yeah the Emi in the bandit made a huge difference. It sounds really awesome and I OD it with a vintage tube monster vt-999 pedal with a 12ax7 tube in the pedal gives the bandit a nice tone more than it already had. Then if the classic is gonna sound close to bandit then probably scratch that lol

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Classic 30 or a Blues Jr. would be my choice under $600. You might need to augment with some pedals to get into the metal range, but both are really good amps.

Plus one on that.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

yeah I was actually listening to the vt-22 Bugera I think they sound awesome as well

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Peavey Classic series (including the Delta Blues):bigok:
I'm the self appointed president of the "I hate Bugera V22" club :lmao:....bad experience! :nono:

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Another vote for Peavey Classic 30 but upgrade tubes and speaker or find one already modded used. I got mine used for $300, upgraded the speaker and sold the stock one net $20, amp already had all JJ el84's power tubes and spent another $30 on 3 different 12ax7's to get the clean and gain tones I wanted. Now it does cleans, blues and rock really well. I run it with a 212 external closed back cabinet with Celestion 12T-75's and it sounds huge. Even with the scooped sound of the external cab, it's not a metal amp, so you'd need to buy a nice metal sounding pedal.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the Classic
trying to tell you the Bandit is about a great sounding amp
no tube amp is gonna sound dramatically better

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Kustom Defender V30 Can be had for under $400.00 Plus you can swap between EL 34 and 6L6. Has 1x12 plus reverb, and a master bypass. Check youtube videos. I have had one for 2 months now, and I can't believe how good it sounds.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Nice I have a Kustom PH TUBE 12 hybrid amp and that sounds terrific!! Its new from 2014.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

I believe I may go with ORANGE DARK TERROR with 1x 12 closed back cab

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

I would recommend a Fender Pro Junior. Why, you ask? Because it has two knobs, it's low watts so you can crank it up a bit and let the tubes do their thing, it's plenty loud enough for the stage, it takes pedals like they were made for it, and quite frankly there's nothing to hide behind. You get out what you put in, and that's the point with a tube amp anyway.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

I've got to say, if you are looking for classic rock, alternative and blues levels of gain, a Blues Jr with a TS9 and your choice of Marshall type pedal would be great.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Buy used. You didn't say where you're from but I did a CL search in the Pittsburg area and found this badass Crate Vintage Club 50. Meets all your needs except it has a 1X15 speaker. $400 asking price would probably be $300 when you finish haggling and come get it.

There's this Vox AC15 for $350. Probably Chinese made but you can probably snag it for $300.

There's this Marshall for $600 or best offer. You'll need to get him to $450 and you'll need a 1X12 cab for $150.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/5016174727.html

Here's your 2X12 Marshall cab. He wants $225 but you should be able to get him to $175. That's only $25 over your budget.

Look what I found! A vintage Traynor YBA-2B Bassmate. For $250 asking price!!! You'll NEED an attenuator...

You should be able to snag this Marshall JVM210 head for $600. You'll need a cab, though and you're over your budget already but THIS is a nice head.

There's this Fender Excelsior Pro. Puts you way under budget and it looks cool, too. 13 watt combo.

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Vox night train...15 watts, good combo. Plus since you have an OD pedal already so you shouldn't have to worry about it not having enough gain..
I'm told the Peavey ValveKing II 20watt is a really nice combo..
Blackstar ht, or rh I believe its called...
Fender Blues jr. with OD pedal..
Have you checked into a Laney?

Re: Good first all tube combo amp

Look for an old used Gibson Goldtone (Trace Elliot). They are nice 1x12 combos. Hard to find sometimes.
