If you ask me, get an EQ pedal with a level slider. You can use it as a boost and you can boost/cut the frequencies you want to shape your lead sound.

Remember if you boost frequencies more than a couple db the noise gets noticeable. If you boost multiple frequencies the noise gets annoying.

With an eq, you are better off cutting and being extremely selective as to where and how much you boost.
